Does anyone on this thread know what Howard University's current policy is about members of the public on campus? Does anyone know what HU's policy is about dogs on campus?

This exactly. Don’t want dog walkers on your campus, fine, post signs and enforce it. that makes total sense to me. But the students are basically saying white neighbors are “interlopers”. As if college campuses all over the country don’t have locals that use the campus spaces. Give me a break.

What the hell does that have to do with black STUDENTS at predominantly white schools all across the country repeatedly getting stopped by campus police and asked to show ID? Do you honestly think black non-students walking around those campuses would tolerated? Do you honestly think they'd be simply disliked and called "interlopers"? You don't think there'd be countless incidents of black non-student dog-walkers ending up in handcuffs and in some instances in the hospital? You sitting here bent out of shape cause Howard students are irritated with the neighboring residents? Shyt I'd rather have students irritated with me than campus police putting a bullet in my ass just for being black.

The plain fact is that neither is right and neither should be tolerated. You are damn right black students have been mistreated. But that does not make what the Howard students are saying okay, either. It's all wrong. Varying degrees, sure, but still wrong.

What are the Howard students doing? It's private property. They don't want dog poop on it.

Not one person on this thread is arguing about that. Of course people need to keep their dogs out. It's about the "interloper" nonsense. This is about more than dogs.

How much you wanna bet that if black folks were routinely wandering around George Washington University taking their dogs for doo-doo walks either the campus police or MPDC would be locking em up en masse without hesitation? How much you wanna bet that if black folks were routinely wandering around George Washington University taking their dogs for doo-doo walks either the campus police or MPDC would be locking em up en masse without hesitation? As a white person who absolutely hates entitled dog owners (which, let's face it, is 99% of them), I honestly think the biggest issue is that it's hard to do something about people walking their dogs in places rather than this having anything to do with white people being untouchable.

It's also clear to me that people who take their dogs into public areas are a special breed of entitled and I really, really hope people of color don't lump them into "white people" category because many if not most white people are annoyed by them too.

Can we take a second to talk about the ridiculousness of the "reverse discrimination" posters who take such great delight in calling black people racist on DCUM? While I, personally, do not think some of the rhetoric about white people is useful, I think it's kind of funny how the reverse discrimination folks fling around "racist" to label black behavior as if it's some kind of devastating critique. All they do when they call black people "racist" is reflect that they believe that the label of racism is some kind of intolerably unfair put-down that's always bogus. It just mirrors back their own insecurity at being called racist.

DP So, according to you I'm not allowed to walk my dog in downtown Silver Spring because it is a public area? Are you for real? Where do you think we are going to go? Not everyone has a huge backyard. What part of public property don't you understand?

Because it’s not so much about the dogs. It’s more about the pigment of the changing neighborhood.
