So, when does the Oafish Orange announce rules of engagement, limits to the authority of the armed forces, guidelines on how the military will treat civilian non-combatants. Where will they be housed? How will they be supplied? How will this be payed for?
...and while his Fox News low IQ base is distracted by this spectacle, another 100,000 immigrants fly into the US on travel visas with no intention of leaving. |
Nice emotional plea, but that's not the creed of our nation and our immigration policy does not operate on this principle. We have largely had a merit based immigration system for the bulk of the people we admit - "give me you energetic, your rich, your best and brightest yearning to breathe free". |
Says the person b(#*$( about asylum and refugee seekers which is what this thread is ACTUALLY ABOUT. Both categories have their cases and legal status formally adjudicated. |
I am livid. I can't believe that we are going to waste money, yes WASTE money, on a wall and sending troops to the boarder when illegal immigration across the boarder has been at a record low. There are so many more priorities like the opioid crisis, getting Puerto Rico 100% back on the grid, dealing with gun violence, securing health care and saving Social Security. It's unconscionable that we are chasing around Trump's imagined boogeymen using taxpayer's dollars. Un*f'ing*believable. |
At least this will be unlikely to happen. They only funded a small amount in the recent budget. |
And given how majority of illegal immigrants today are from visa overstays, I don't think the ROI is worth it. |
No, it does not. The caravan isn't headed for Ellis Island. They are planning on sneaking over the border like criminals. |
Hmm... Fox News might have paid to stage the caravan.

Between 2000 and 2008, Salvadorans surpassed Cubans as the second largest immigrant group from Latin America (after the Mexican born). Cubans more likely to be conservative and higher educated but I guess the dems need those votes from hondurans and salvadorans to keep the blue wave going after these have kids in the US! |
Right? Also, Ellis Island wasn’t a super nice and inclusive place. Let’s cut it with the fairytale. |
They release them inside the United States after a witnessed illegal entry?? |
There have been reports in Mexican newspapers about this, and fact checks by other sources. There is a caravan of about 1500 people. From Central American countries; Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala... They were in southern Mexico as of several days ago. Far from the US border. The organizers were surprised at the turnout, stating that there was a caravan of about 400 people last year. The part that is in question is whether these people plan to continue to the US. Apparently many people interviewed want to stay in Mexico... I’m not surprised, that many, the majority, may be single young adult men. It’s the same with any migration. Men travel easier. And sadly, as seen in the migration across the Mediterranean, it’s survival of the fittest, with many more women drowning than men, and I assume women are caught and sold, too, by criminal gangs. This “group” wants to protect the migrants from such fates...but of course, it’s not ok to cross several countries borders illegally to settle then illegally in the country with birthright citizenship... |
The point is that political asylum is supposed to be to the first safe country you enter. After that, it becomes an opportunistic move, not a safety driven one. |
Exactly. Greed vs need. |
Why do you care? It's the same deal as when Obama and W sent the National Guard to the border. |
