Those opposed to "gay marriage" will you explain your position to me?

How is it possible to selectively pick which bits of the bible we must obey to the letter? And if that really is ok to pick and choose, can you explain why you choose to accept the language on marriage only being between the sexes?

It's just that it strikes me that some people are hiding behind religion to justify bigoted ideas. If this is wrong, can you explain why to me please?

Why are none of the people citing religion to explain their opposition answering this question? Could someone to so please?

Still interested in an answer to this please. Or else I will assume that, you know, actually you just use the religion excuse selectively because it helps justify your bigoted beliefs.

Kidding me? I think gay men have a lot more fun than most married men

Some people just want to stand out and do whatever it takes. Maybe they didn't get enough parental attention when they were little children.

OP here, will you please explain what you mean? I sincerely do not understand.

Which words of mine do you not understand?

It kind of sounds like a job transfer to San Francisco would cause you to become gay. So as not to stand out.

I am against gay marriage in part because I believe it elevates validating a romantic relationship between adults over the best interests of children. I believe it is best for children to have a mother and a father. I am surprised at how little commentary there is about how gay marriage devalues motherhood and fatherhood.

Conservatives already did that in the 90s. But then it turned out that gays did fine as parents.

Are you against having children out of wedlock? You wanna outlaw it?
Are you against divorce? You wanna outlaw it?
Are you against sole custody? You wanna outlaw it?
Are you against single parenthood? You wanna outlaw it?
Are you against foster care to single adults? You wanna outlaw it?
Are you against adoption for single adults? You wanna outlaw it?

I think kids can have positive role models of both sexes without living in a home that has both.

Plenty of families have zero positive role models of either sex.

I think having parents of whatever orientation who love you and serve as positive role models is more important than enforcing some male/female household as the only way nonsense.

Having fun with your own does not mean it is an easy lifestyle to lead.

But, my best gay friend does seem to have fun with his people. He hasn't told his family, though.

Plenty of people get married and don't have children. Yours is a ridiculous argument.

Are you going to prohibit people from getting married who don't agree to have children?

Are you going to outlaw women over the age of 60 from getting married, since they won't be able to bear children and likely won't be adopting?

Are you going to take children away from unmarried women who give birth and don't have any contact with the father, and then adopt those children out, since their situation "devalues fatherhood"? Or how about make unmarried women who get pregnant abort?

Are you going to remove children from the homes of widows and widowers? Since it is best for children to have a mother and father, send them to another family!

Are you going to outlaw unmarried people from adopting? No matter how many children languish in the foster care system, can't have that devaluing of motherhood/fatherhood.

And if 2 gay men promise not to have any children, are you then okay with them getting married? Because if they don't have children, how does their marriage devalue motherhood and fatherhood? What if they don't get married, can they have children? Is it just their marriage that devalues motherhood and fatherhood, or the very fact that they live together? Please, we need more details to sort this out.

it seems to me that you're using an argument that says "there's other bad stuff in the Bible" so this should be okay. Why would items you perceive as objectionable in the Bible make homosexuality okay? It doesn't. Scripture is absolutely clear about the abomination of homosexuality. I'm sure some murderers would say murder must be okay because the Bible okays rape. Sorry, murder is not okay. Just to clear the Bible does not okay rape. Non-believers who provide their interpretation don't do it in context. You have to have the proper frame of mind and be true in heart and fidelity. Progressive nihilists with axes to grind with their existence are neither. They want a world where they are at the center. Oh, the unhappiness they are bound to have. Indulging in homosexuality and promiscuity always leads to emptiness.

no such thing. Research and children themselves support the supposition that children of gay people suffer mental health at higher rates then children of heterosexual unions. In the face of that people are still willing to sacrifice the health and welfare of kids for their own selfish needs. Pure egocentrism at its worse.

Yup, Tim cook seems to be leading an incredibly empty life.

And Barry manilow.

And Ellen degeneres.

And Neil Patrick Harris.
