At what income do you not have a cleaning lady?

$175K HHI. definitely cannot afford a cleaning lady, but combined we pay $750/mo for student loans and we have a $400K mortgage and pay for preschool.

+100 I have seen cleaning persons wipe the floor and then wipe the counters - yuck. You have no idea how many germs they are spreading around.

And yet somehow, most amazingly, you haven't died yet.

That's because I refuse to pay anymore and clean my own house! A little bit everyday and there is no marathon cleaning session on the weekend. Shoot appliances do most of the work for you.

No - it's a time issue. We are gone from the house 11 - 12 hours a day, 5 days a week. On the weekends, I'd rather spend time with my kids than spending 4 hours cleaning my house and shooing them away.

I work from home but same issue. I'm in conference calls, then working and I'd rather be with my kids and have time for the gym than vacuum and clean the toilets.

It takes a 2-person crew 5-6 hours to clean my house.

20 minutes is longer than it would take me to clean up after my self in my home office after a day of madness.

Seriously. My cleaning lady is here and its after noon and she's been here since 9 and hasn't even started on the basement yet - and we're in a 2000sft house so not that big!

We both work FT, $120K combined and 8month old at home. We hired a cleaning lady when I realized that everyone at my non-profit (who has kids) has a cleaning person except for me! I also love to clean, it de-stresses me, but I was having to choose between spending time with DD and cleaning so it was an easy choice. She comes once a week and de-clutters, and cleans and laundry. Our apartment is tiny so it's 3 hours of work per week. It's seriously saved us some sanity and for the time being, we're OK with outsourcing work until I can get more than 2 hours of sleep at a time!

$330 HHI - had a cleaning lady since we were in grad schools because we're really social and our house is like a train station. She comes
every week. She even vacuums my toaster. I adore her. Some things are just not worth fighting about.

$600-700k ish and weekly cleaning lady who has worked for me since I was a single mom making 30k. Having a clean organized house has enabled be to be successful.

The penny pinchers on here have it backwards. I would be much poorer without the cleaning lady. She enables me to focus on my strengths.

HHI $220 no cleaners at the moment, though used to have someone come twice a month. Trying to save money to do some home improvement projects so we stopped that. Plus my kids are old enough that I really want them to be pitching in. They do bathrooms in the house on the weekends and take out the trash, pick up in general, some vacuuming. Next up is to get them to do laundry. I think it's important for kids to do chores like that. I don't want them growing up to think that someone else will clean up their messes.

But esp. once they're out of the house, yeah I'm going to get a weekly cleaner so I don't have to wipe down all the surfaces or clean the tub/showers anymore. DH is not very attentive to dirt though he helps quite a bit.

I'd hire the cleaning lady before getting a late model car or taking expensive trips. I pay my Salvadoran lady $80 cash and she comes every damn week

How is her nationality relevant?

Why does being descriptive bother you?

Why not decribe her as short, tall or attractive? Why not describe her personality? Because you aren't merely feeling descriptive...

This. Plus I'm a total neat freak. I'm guessing all of these people who do their own cleaning aren't that concerned about having a clean, neat house or they don't have very demanding jobs. I've had a cleaning service since I was single with my own apartment.
