Shining Stars New Location!

Wow, pp, that is not cool.

I'm really rooting for ssma and feel bad for everyone affected. It can be a great school and I think we'll get past this. That said, it's taken a big toll. Personally I can't focus on work this week this week because I keep peeking at this forum and checking my email in fears of another big shake up. Must. Log. Off. But before that I have to ask if anyone else is feeling the same?

(As in "not cool that the school took so long." Not blaming you for anything!)

Yeah, it was the same for us until I asked. Apparently those of us that accepted over the weekend should have been on the email list but were not.

I even asked them directly in an email Friday and did not receive any response. I'm not happy.

I'm this PP, and I JUST received a response now stating that school will be at Chillum Place. I will respond that we are not attending but I almost feel like just ignoring them altogether.

I've admittedly been just ignoring for a few days, in my own silent protest. I know I need to just let them know so they can offer the seat to another child (and I will today), but I've just been too mad to even respond!

I think it's worth it for you to respond briefly but honestly about how this has affected your family. Sorry it happened.

Above poster again. As much as you are frustrated with the Admins, there are a lot of really great (and innocent!) kids who will be affected by enrollment numbers and a lot of curb in the early days, so if you're not enrolling, please do try to let the school know soon. Your message can be angry, but please send it. Thanks!

Curb = churn

I think they are going to have a lot of unenrollment, right at the start, since people have been holding onto their spots while seeing what is going on, or they are just not even responding out of anger.

Is anyone able to pin down when SSMA found out that the Wisconsin ave location fell through? From watching the PSCB meeting, I was not able to tell. I am curious how long they held onto this info while extending new enrollment invitations and taking acceptances.

I might mention, I almost puked while watching the SSMA administration being "commended" and called "astute" in dealing with this situation. Those are not the first words that would come to my mind.

Completely agree. I also can't believe that the charter board seemed fine with what happened.

I wish I could have been there. No one highlighted that they presumably knew for many days, yet failed to notify parents until Monday at 1pm. They were still extending offers on Friday noting GP as the location - surely they knew at that point?

Is the charter school board accountable to elected officials? Is there some way that we can complain (effectively) about this?

I'd be up for that. Can someone find us a venue for discussing our grievances?

The charter school board is appointed by the mayor. Otherwise it is completely unaccountable.

I guess we can only hope that parents vote with their feet and decide to walk from SSMA. (I'm sure many have no other option though, unfortunately.)
