Continuing SSMA family and stoked about the space (natural light, close playground). It's a hike, but I much rather hike to a populated, safe area.
I do worry about diversity, but I have faith that once the school is able to focus on something other than it's location that a recruitment and retainment strategy can be developed (shuttles, etc) |
Do they have a signed lease in place? Is this definite? (I am on the waitlist and this location would work for is much better than Sela) |
Anyone enrolled in Lee Montessori want to trade for a spot at Shining Stars now? |
Not on your life! |
Ha. I'm sure if you called SS you'd get a spot. Meanwhile I know there are SSMA families on the WL for Lee so it would be an effective trade?? |
NOT IN THREE WEEKS! What school do you think successfully pulled that off in 3 weeks? |
You are dreaming. Do any DC charters have SCHOOL-Run (and paid for) shuttles? All the charter school buses I know of are parent run. That is too expensive foe low SES families and that is way too far a hike on public transport. Race and class diversity will be heavily impacted by this move. Such a huge bummer, as I have been so impressed by the diversity of parents who had really committed and formed a strong parent community. There is a reason location and commute are a deal-maker or deal-breaker for so many families. |
+1. would rather have longer commute than have kids walking in a rundown area to get to a playground (sela co location option). for most parents, the commute will be longer, but it's more central than getting almost into Takoma Park. Almost no one works up in that area around Sela, but wisc ave is closer to downtown |
Have you ever been inside of an office? Most of what’s needed is there besides desk, tables, smart boards etc. A few home depot day labors could have this done in no time. |
Same here! |
PP here. I mean, enrolled at Lee and want to get into SSMA now! |
This is great news for the school and a really lucky win on their part after getting screwed over on the taylor street deal. Good luck SSMA families! |
Hilarious! SS is now going to eclipse all other charters in terms of desirability. A public Montessori in ward 3! |
dcum desirability that is. |
Have you even been to that side of town? That area is not rundown or are you speaking of just that street? Perhaps, it’s an "industrial" area and this is what's your basing your assumptions on. There is a new development selling 400k townhomes along with 700k single family homes within walking distance. |
