Was Paul Ryan's remark inarticulate or racist?

Yes, immigrants suffer from unemployment - just as any demographic does, but consider also that there's typically a big difference between legal immigants who came here often with money and education and by virtue of education are likely to qualify for good jobs versus illegals who come here without money or education but who either have to work or return home.

You are the one doing far more oversimplifying, generalizing, stereotyping and conflating here... just as you quite erroneously are suggesting I'm a "conservative" when I'm anything but. You need to look a little deeper rather than just throwing snippy, condescending knee jerk responses out there.

Sorry, you are the one who conflated "immigrant" with "illegal". Not my fault. If you are a liberal, then you're the worst liberal on the planet.

^^I should have said "one of the worst on a regional basis". I wouldn't want to be accused of oversimplifying.

Not the worst liberal. In fact, I'm a pretty good liberal and probably more of a liberal than you even are. Worst DEMOCRAT, perhaps I'd agree with you there. I've never been one for unquestioningly marching along with the rank and file, I'm more of an independent thinker. From where I'm standing, you were the one to make the leap to assumptions and accusations about illegal immigrants - but at any rate, your comment about immigrants isn't terribly relevant as immigrant unemployment rates are quite a bit lower than black unemployment rates.

Am I correct in my understanding that illegals are unskilled laborers, non-English speaking?

And are they disliked if they are poor, and disliked if they are successful?

No, you are not necessarily correct in those assumptions.

No, I'm quite certain that you equated immigrants with illegal immigrants. I won't condescend by re-quoting your own post back to you.

You can't quote me because I never said it. You read into what I said and just went ahead with your own assumption.

You said
More typically that's a function of being temporarily between jobs, as opposed to long-term unemployment. It's generally not workable for immigrants to be unemployed for long because they don't have advantage of most of the supports and benefits that legal citizens do.

Case closed.

Deflect and side track all you like - here's something more relevant to the original point:

Checking the statistics from BLS, the unemployment rate among hispanics in DC is far lower (7.8%) than it is for blacks (17%).

If you want to talk "case closed" then this is "case closed" on the original point.

So repeating your words verbatim is deflection and side tracking. That just takes the cake.

I'm done with your bigoted nonsense. BTW immigrant <> hispanic. We have a ton of African immigrants in DC. Thanks for throwing yet another stereotype into your closing argument.

Foolish of you to go there. There's a big cultural difference between African immigrants and low-SES AAs too. But if you want to say you're done and run away then you've lost the debate.

Buh-bye.

Ha ha. I didn't know that when you quoted unemployment rates you pulled out immigrants. You are full of miserable ideas about minorities and immigrants alike. You really need to stop calling yourself a liberal, for the rest of us.

LOL, let me guess you get your news from FOX? You obviously have missed out on meeting the many people who came here on a college VISA and never left . In any metro area there are plenty of "illegals" and they are very literate, often in 2, 3 and 4 languages, including yours.
