Was Paul Ryan's remark inarticulate or racist?

Strawman, meet strawman. I guess this thread is going nowhere fast.

And are they disliked if they are poor, and disliked if they are successful?

LOL, let me guess you get your news from FOX? You obviously have missed out on meeting the many people who came here on a college VISA and never left . In any metro area there are plenty of "illegals" and they are very literate, often in 2, 3 and 4 languages, including yours.

Exactly, people who overstay the period of time allowed as a visitor, tourist, student, or businessperson are also illegal aliens

Illegals are all of the above. However, the taxpayer is picking up the tab for the children of those who are unskilled. That is a fact.

Are you talking about Fortune 500 companies?
Yeah taxpayers do have to pick up the tab for corporate subsidies - CFO's and CEO's are unskilled indeed that's a fact, not sure about their kids.

Yes. That's why Fairfax county is going to have to raise taxes. So they can educate the kids of all those who overstayed student visas.

So you think taxes will go down if illegals are deported or locked up or whatever the heck you wanna do with em besides educate em?

Right, all those illegal tech workers from India and China are such a burden on the system in Fairfax.

No. But they might not go up. I agree we have to educate the kids--but we sure need to discourage them from coming in the future. Churches are feeding them, too.

I think taxes will go up because illegals aren't just going to magically vanish. They're going to have be deported or locked up or whatever SOMEWAY and in all likelihood that way is going to cost taxpayers more money. Oh, and let's not forget that illegals will KEEP COMING!! and I'm not talking about people sneaking across borders or pulling or floating over on makeshift boats a la Elian Gonzalez, I'm talking about people who overstay the period of time allowed as a visitor, tourist, student, or businessperson. Can't exactly spot them walking down the street and its not exactly ethical to stop and ID check people without probable cause or convenient for actual citizens either. So...for all intents and purposes it looks like we can either tolerate some illegals and, yes, educate some of their kids who may actually contribute to society at taxpayer expense OR we can round up all of the illegals and their kids and ship them off to wherever and set up Checkpoint Charlies everywhere at taxpayer expense. Either way its not likely your taxes will be "safe" from going up.

so know religious charity is bad. Should we just throw out the words of Jesus, who commands us to care for the poor? Maybe he was a sentimental fool whose words don't cover modern society ?

No, just pointing out that the churches are stepping up to help--something which the liberals on this board frequently challenge.

Speaking as someone who once personally worked for a church that fed between 700 and 800 people a day, I can say that we were a drop in the bucket of hunger. Sorry but the idea that churches are taking care of the problem is a red herring.

No one said they were solving the problem--just that they are using their resources to help with the problem. Are we going to keep our gates open forever at the expense of middle class hard working people?

Joel Osteen pulls in $600,000 every weekend, which could feed tens of thousands of hungry children. But it turns out that the money goes to Feed The Children, which it turns out is just another huge boondoggle receiving an F from philanthropy watchdogs, with precious little money actually ever going to feed hungry mouths. People like to talk about government inefficiency but organizations like Joel Osteen and Feed The Children are actually far more bloated, wasteful, corrupt and inefficent at feeding anyone than just about any government program out there.

Joel Osteen is a televangelist. I don't belong to his church.
