+1

This is the USA. No words are illegal. This is insanity and if I were Paula Deen I'd be suing the hell out of the plaintiff and Food Network.

How dumb is that?
Let her sue the person who is suing her because during the course of the lawsuit she admitted to a pattern of behavior that her employer found harmful to their business and they let her go.
Let Paula fire her DAMN SELF.
It is really sad that thread is revealing a whole contingent of white folk who are just mad cause they want to be able to do and say whatever they want with no consequences.
White Privilege run amok!

I meant to say let Paula SUE herself

Anyone read the lawsuit? Paula Deen said very little or nothing. She talks about an old fashioned wedding. The suit is mainly aimed at her brother. She is only the deep pocket (owner of the business) Wow, just wow.

Sweetie, you might want to cover up and be a little more modesty - your naked privilege is showing.

What is being "a little more modesty," sweetie? Your failure to grasp the English language is showing, I fear.

She got what she deserved. Had she come out and called Jews Hook noses, she'd be catching hell and everyone would be against her.

Most black people do not agree with rappers or comics using the word either. The biggest consumers of rap are WHITE people also. So save your outrage.

This is what I assumed but I'm not real clear on how she got caught up in everything. It seems that Bubba is the real target but when Paula was asked under oath had she ever used the word she said, "ooffff couuuuurrsseee!" I haven't read anything else about what Paula actually did; other than be the money person behind brother Bubba's plantation... oops restaurant.

re: beer and "black as a board"

Eeek..the more I learn, the more I get pissed. For those confused, it's not so much as saying "nigger" that's the problem, but rather discriminatory behavior. I can't control what someone chooses to say, so I try not to let it bother me (unless the slur is directed at me). It does become a huge problem when racist behavior is displayed in discriminatory ways.

Not cool, Paula.

Does not sound good. Still it is her brother that is the main actor here. And she did not ask the person who is bringing the lawsuit to work, or anybody "at parties given by her and Bubba". This case is certainly being tried in the press. Bubba sounds like an out of control racist to me, though

You know, I'm not a fan, but I've watched Paula on and off for years. I don't think there's a malicious bone in her body. She's just a product of the South. From watching her and reading about her, she's really the kind of person that would give you the shirt off her back no matter what color you were.

But, she's a chatty gal and gets herself in trouble the way all of us chatty gals can. My MIL is very much like her and as she gets older she kind of slips up occasionally, but she is the kindest and sweetest woman to everyone, all the time.

Uh-huh, Paula's a chatty, good ole gal that calls black people niggers in her warm, sweet-hearted way. I watched a program of her sharing that her great-grampy owned slaves (actually she called them workers) and went out to the barn and shot himself after the South lost the Civil War. Later in this program she introduced one of her dark-complexioned, black male employees and said, I almost didn't see ya standing up back there in the audience cuz you blended in so well. I'm assuming the lights were down in the audience. She thought this was so funny and kept right on chatting it up without missing a beat with the program's moderator speechlessly looking at her.

So you have never met, interacted with, or have ANY relationship with this woman, but you don't think she has a malicious bone in her body.
This to me shows the negative consequences of our media oriented society (and I work in the media!)
People actually think they know someone or know something about someone because they saw them on tv or read an article/interview with them.
TV shows are scripted, heavily edited as are print articles.
Come on people it is one thing to say someone 'comes off as' such and such...but to make such declaritive statements about someone who would not know you from a hole in the wall is DELUSIONAL.
And I would say that if you were talking about my mom...and she really is a good person, BUT YOU DON'T KNOW THAT!
