http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/19/paula-deen-racist-comments-n-word-caught-on-video_n_3467287.html Surprised DCUM has not started talking about this (or maybe not) Welcome to Post-Racial America. I think this is just another example of how a lot of people think and behave 'behind closed doors', they think these attitudes and comments fall into the category of 'what they don't know won't hurt them'. |
| Wow she wanted to throw a Southern style plantation wedding where the black waiters would dress as slaves??! What is wrong with her. |
|
Who is post racial?
Wishful thinking much OP? |
| Don't you sing any rap songs? I frequently use the N word when I sing along with Snoop etc... |
|
If people knew what I said out loud in the privacy of my own home, I wouldn't have any friends. That said, Paula Deen is a fat, loud mouth pig. I don't really care about her using the N word... she just seems obnoxious as heck.
Oh... Black woman here! |
OP here -- I take it u totally missed the sarcasm. Woosh -- there it goes flying right over your head |
| read the whole article. allegedly. allegedly. I didn't see video or proof, but I believe it. damn shame. |
| I just read about it this morning. She's gross. |
OP here again (also a BW) I understand your point PP...we all say and think some things (right and wrong) at home and in private.... HOWEVER, these are things that were said at businesses she owns...are alleged patterns of behaviour that colored her behaviour and patterns of behaviour in HER BUSINESS. this came out of deposition taken as part of a lawsuit alleging sexual and racial discrimination... NO one is suing her cause she said something to her neighbor or said out loud to herself when she was home alone....there is a big difference there.. |
The difference is $$$$ ya'll! |
If a person is alone in the woods and shouts the "N" word ... does it cause an outrage? |
The discrimination is ALLEGED... The usage of the word ..that is fact...this came from a COURT DEPOSITION.... Her team has already tried to spin and apologize |
Please go back and read what was said. |
| None of this would surprise me. Of course she and her brother used the n-word; they grew up in Georgia in the 40s and 50s. My family is from Georgia and older uncles and such still use those terms on occasion. I don't condone it, but for people who grew up in the rural South in that time period, it was totally, totally normal. So no, if the Deen family used that word, I would not be the least bit surprised. The real question is does this woman suing them deserve to be compensated for hearing the Hierses/Deens use the n-word on occasion. |
