Most unclean city you have visited during your travels

FWIW, we just returned from New Orleans and it seemed pretty clean to us.

We saw lots of street/sidewalk cleaning going on by both the municipality and shop & hotel owners.

We did not go out late into the night and so we did not see the results of too much partying. Maybe the morning cleaning efforts washed away the grime.

I commented on the dirtiness of the Indian cities I've visited.

It's still somehow beautiful with amazing sights, food, and culture. So, yes, it's great. It's also...not great. Both things are true.

Hospital-grade sterile compared to India.

India is a country. You need to go back to school.

We understand that. The reason so many respondents are saying "India" - when they are aware India isn't a city - is because India is that unclean.

North India is filthy. South India is much cleaner than North India and even cleaner than many cities in Europe.

I’m not sure why so many North Indian cities are full of trash and excrement. Can any Indians explain why this is?

So north India is filthy and full of sexual assault and scams. Sounds like a real great place they’ve built. Nicely done

I don't think south India is any better, just less dusty. GIGANTIC bugs though. I can't stand south India.

DP. I have not been in many years, but I remember thinking Chennai was shockingly clean when I went. I had been in Calcutta and Delhi immediately prior, though, so I’m not sure if it was on a relative or absolute basis.

As an Indian, I wonder which other country is as bad as ours. Much of Africa is poor but does poor = dirty, or do they keep their country clean?

We definitely need laws like Singapore does. I hope Modi does something.

Lady...

Exactly. Why Bring Africa into the chat when nobody has mentioned it?

A new company has the contract to pressure wash the streets and sidewalks. They use a lemon scent with the water. All of the citizens like the new company's performance.

It's been a few years here too and it was during rain season but I was pretty grossed out by Chennai. Definitely not clean by any measure. So many canceled meetings due to malaria and so much sewage floating through the streets. Hot and humid as hell. I'm sure I will be back in India at some point for work but it's on the list of places I would never use my own leave and funds to visit.

India - everywhere!

Streets, shops, restaurants

I was in shock. Stay in the tourist areas

Street food was dirty. People cooking with bare hands and bare feet. It was eye opening.

We visited DC from the Midwest and were shocked by trash and rats we saw in the neighborhoods around the mall.

DC rats do not give a f**k about anything. They are fat and happy and running down the street in broad daylight.
