MCPS already announced it was closed Tuesday back on Sunday. This isn’t news.

Clearly you don’t live in this area if you don’t know the difference between UMD and MCPS.

Clearly you can’t read if you don’t realize this is an MCPS board. You can post about UMD in the college forum where people care.

That always drives me nuts. They figure the plow will come through again or that cars will spread it out and it will melt in the sun. Problem is, it will turn to ice after sunset.

We love a mile from the ES and haven't see a plow yet.

I just drove by almost every school in Germantown and Montgomery Village and none have been touched.

Correction Whetstone ES is currently being plowed

Our school has classroom carts, but a couple years ago (back when virtual snow days were on the table) they sent out a form saying that anyone who wouldn't have a computer available for their kids on snow days was welcome to request a personal one to take home. We requested and got one. Obviously none of this works for this week, but it's doable for the future if they wanted to figure out how to make it work.

Not appropriate for young kids

So if young kids can’t be educated, MS and HS kids who live on their chromebooks can’t be educated.

It means they'll have to extend the school year anyway.

Go take a drive. I haven't seen a single cleared sidewalk and road lanes are only partially cleared. This was at 2 pm Monday.
Kids cant be walking to school in this mess

You can’t melt the ice when it’s below freezing for a week.

How do Minneapolis, Boston and Chicago make it happen?

They budget for it since they get more snow on a regular basis

Sidewalks are the responsibility of the property owner/resident. Our community hired contractors to clear them and they are clear.

NP. And? The public sidewalks that are the responsibility of the county have a limited pool of workers available to clear them.

People on this forum clearly care what other academic institutions do when it snows.

We're telling you how things stand in the majority of the county that doesn't have communities who hire contractors, but rely on county services instead.

We do this so you're not going to freak out when schools are still closed on Wednesday, or Thursday, or maybe even Friday.

But you're so blind to other people's realities that you're probably going to have a massive tantrum anyway. Just because YOUR neck of the woods is fine, you want schools to open. Well, better make plans, PP. It might not happen on our schedule.

The county doesn't own the majority of land with sidewalks. Most is privately owned. You need to take a breath and maybe go outside and shovel your damn sidewalk.

There are many sidewalks that are the county's responsibility.

Why would the county be responsible for clearing your sidewalks? You are responsible for clearing your own sidewalks or paying someone else to. And it must be done by tonight.

If everyone on here who was complaining about schools not being open on Wednesday went out with a shovel and went to work on the schools and walking routes then maybe we could open on Wednesday. Be a team player people
