Well said. Every single year around this time, the same types of parents show up with the same rants. Never fails. |
+1 We also have a VT senior who has had the best four years! It's been everything she had hoped and more. I'll also miss visiting Blacksburg, but we'll have one last hurrah in May! |

VT knows it is not the first choice for the top kids and hence has to play these games. So someone who is high stats is at a disadvantage when applying to VT.
|
Huh. Guess I'll pass that along to all the high stats kids from my DC's high school class who hope to go there. |
That TJ parent is a complete liar. I am a TJ parent and can see the scattergram. There are some red X's in the sea of green, but we all know that VT cares deeply about their short essays and will reject people who don't take the time to polish their answers (despite being very high stats). |

Yep. That parent is so recognizable. Every.single.year. they show up and pretend their kid is currently applying when they actually applied several years ago and were rejected. I wonder about their mental health. |
| A lot of tippy top students take a shot at T20, have UVA as a backup and throw in an application to VT as a super safety. VT got tired of this about 5-6 years ago. Now VT has to thread the needle pretty carefully to pick up those that really want to come there. |
| I shake my head at anyone who actually considers VT a "super safety." Wow. |
What triggered you? Calm down! Are you always this much of a drama queen? |
Not anymore, but it used to be for the top 30% of TJ kids 7-8 years ago. |
Hmmm. They didn't seem triggered or dramatic. |
+1 my son applied five years ago. When looking at his school scattergrams, there was a very clear pattern of acceptance in the upper quadrant. His year there were a lot of surprises of higher stat kids getting waitlisted or denied. Ever since ( I have a couple younger kids), the VT results are hard to predict and that upper quadrant of the scattergram is a real mix. Nobody should count on it as a safety |
Mistake here- VCU and GMU also have good engineering programs. |
