Voting for E or G over F isn't going to help keep SSIMS open, all 3 assume closure. That's no reason to be against F. We should all pick one option to vote for among A-D (top choice if SSIMS stays open) and one option to vote for among E-G (top choice if SSIMS closes.). Really they should have set the whole survey up that way. |
Agree. Would encourage west county folks to vote for F and if this is their sticking point to mention it. F is clearly the best option for east county with minimal negative impact on west county (IMO). |
+1 I would be fine with this. It does feel like MCPS is setting things up so they can dictate the outcome by not providing viable alternatives. |

I posted above that we are currently Blair but could be rezoned to Northwood (option B or F), which is on the face of it not ideal.
I don’t have a problem with arts but putting the humanities magnet at Northwood would make it a considerably more attractive possibility for my family. |
I’m sorry but MCPS has been so horrible about taking feedback that I would personally never vote for F with a footnote hoping they make that minor, common sense adjustment. After the fiasco of what’s been going on with the regional plan, I just don’t trust them. My gut is if the majority vote for F, they will go forward with F as it is presented. I am not from Wood Acres or Bethesda Elementary, so not directly affected. But I’ve been around long enough to predict their actions and it is ridiculous that they would bus kids in a walk zone for no significant reason especially since all 6 other options do not, and are perfectly viable. |
All other 6 options are viable for you, but they leave the highest FARMS schools overcrowded. |
Sorry the highest FARMS school in Region 1 - Wheaton |
Oh don't worry, they always listen to Whitman families so this particular change will certainly happen if Whitman parents want them to. |
They could’ve presented option F without swapping Wood Acres or Bethesda Elementary and satisfied both sets of people. I have no idea why they didn’t. I don’t think it’s good that any schools are overcrowded after this whole process. |
Wheaton isn’t in region 1 |
With ~2000 students and ~40% FARMS, Northwood has potential to be comparable to Blair in terms of a high-achieving cohort and course offerings... unless tons of kids choose to leave for different schools. |
Agree. What’s the rationale for giving humanities to Whitman? |
no schools are overcroweded in any option. |
You are absolutely right .it is the highest FARMS school included in the boundary study and is left overcrowded in 6 of the 7 options |
Because Whitman already has tons of niche classes like AP Art History and sociology and less common languages, and MCPS is trying to do this without allocating or re-allocating any resources. |
