I think they thought it wouldn’t matter. For one thing, the association of Cook with “fraud” will probably stick, at least with some people, no matter what the truth happens to be. For another, someone who lacked Lisa’s strength might well have resigned. Had she done so, I’m sure the resignation would have remained permanent. In many ways, their goals were achieved. I’d also guess that the efforts to get rid of Cook will probably continue.
