McConnell is the most likely. Seriously. |
He was incredible yesterday!! Finally there will be someone who is focused on the well being of our troops!! All the cheating stuff was funny to watch since most of Washington has cheated. Time Kaine esp since he regularly campaigns with cheaters.

Or the new guy from Utah. |
oh my... he couldn't name a single ASEAN country? I'm not even in politics, and I can answer that just by knowing a bit of geography.
Trump and crew are just dumb and dumber and dumbest. He is not picking the "best people". Nope. |
NO ONE seems to understand or want to acknowledge that serving in the National Guard is not the same as being a full-time active duty servicemember. Including senators, it seems.
There is a distinct difference between the full-time active duty military and National Guard members. While the vast majority of National Guard members are dedicated, highly-skilled and competent, they sadly serve under a system that is well-known to be much more corrupt and incompetent. When in the State, they do NOT fall under the DoD. It is only when they are Federalized. There have been innumerable instances of corruption and mis-management as evidenced by many news articles, like this one from a few years ago: USA Today Nov 25, 2021 - "The National Guard system – crucial to America's military defense and vital to state emergency operations – is reeling from corruption and misconduct that reflect overarching command failures, a USA TODAY investigation has found. For more than two decades, state Guards from Alaska to California to Delaware have been shaken by scandals, often exposed by whistleblowers who are subjected to retaliation amid coverups. In Maryland, a Black soldier was taunted and forced to wear chains as punishment. In Vermont, an Air Guard commander allegedly flew a fighter jet to the nation's capital, where he had a tryst with a Pentagon official. In state after state, soldiers have been sexually assaulted or harassed, only to suffer reprisal from executive officers. Throughout the National Guard system, which consists of 54 independent state and territorial militias, soldiers and airmen have complained for decades about abuses that suggest a failure of culture and oversight. Critics contend that pervasive corruption and a lack of transparency betray America's nearly 445,000 National Guard troops while shielding culprits, even as Guard units are relied upon more than ever. “It’s a structural deficit of accountability,” said Dwight Stirling, a California National Guard attorney and director of the Center for Law and Military Policy. “What you get there is one thing – corruption." |
^ most understand. That's why most are saying he's unqualified. |
[mastodon]
+1 Kaine sounded like a pervert. The comments on this thread are example number 5,789,423 why the majority of people on DCUM are so out of touch with most of America and why Trump won. |
This is so like Trump. Pick people who have little experience and knowledge but whom he thinks will be loyal to him, not the country... but to him.
It's like when he gave Ivanka a VP position at the ripe old age of 24. No real experience, but she was loyal to him. Can you imagine how the generals under a SecDef would feel if they had to report to someone like Hegseth, a man vastly unqualified who didn't even serve in any real military leadership position? FWIW, my brother served in the guard, so it's not like I look down on the Nat. Guard, but there's definitely a difference between them and, say, the Marines. |
? majority of people think an alcoholic national guardsman is qualified to serve as SecDef? This country is surely doomed. If he becomes SecDef, I could see our enemies attacking the US because of the weak leadership. |
That Democrats can't keep a guy like Hegseth from being confirmed shows just how little actual power they currently have. It's going to be a tough 18-20 months for them. |
Trump won because many Americans are out of touch with reality. |
he's such an obvious tool |
I figured it out...
The reason why Trump keeps picking unqualified people is because he wants to appear like the smartest person in the room and tell everyone how to do their jobs. Since we all know how dumb Trump is, he has to pick people even dumber than he is. That's why he picks these obscure people with zero experience in their fields. |
and get their news from unreliable sources like some billionaire's fake news platform |
