That does sound miserable. What is with these people?

This is total BS. Our kid is there and loves it. Plays club sports. Acts in plays and films. Tutors. Joined co-ed frat. Double majoring. No sobbing and no misery. Much joy and enthusiasm for studies, profs, friends and the future.

Agree with some of this. In our private HS friend group, its:

Duke
Brown
Dartmouth
Vanderbilt
Rice (!!)
Michigan
USC
UCLA
BC
U-Miami
Wisconsin
Wake
Tulane
Santa Clara

CMC
Middlebury
Wesleyan
Davidson

You can report on the happiness of almost 20 kids who aren’t your own? Actually, more than 20 kids bc this supposes you know some kids who aren’t happy, too. I doubt you really know how all these kids feel (although I do hope they are all happy). Pointing this out bc answers to this thread will be even more useless than many.

We know happy Penn and CMU kids, though I am sure there are unhappy ones. We knew a kid miserable at W&L , transferred to Vandy and loved it, and we have known some who hate it.
None of this is the schools, it is the individual plus the element of expectation vs reality of college, especially competitive ones.

This makes sense.

Yes, enough alcohol will make a kid feel and look very happy indeed.

I can confirm that, generally, kids at Auburn are legitimately happy and enjoying life. Has nothing to do with alcohol.

Can’t speak to the others.

My kid is having the time of his life at Case Western. He has made great friends, is loving his classes and professors, and enjoying art and music scenes in Cleveland.

The academic communities shaped by mentally ill progressive white people and helicopter parents suck.

All the joy has been suppressed and social growth obstructed. What a colossal waste of money. Better off commuting or online study.

Feel free to choose that for your kids!

I’m glad he’s enjoying Case! I’m from Cleveland. Case is a great school.
Cleveland is underrated.
