I have several kids in college. Out of their extended friend groups of probably 20 kids, the schools where kids are really happy: UVA, UCLA, Wisconsin, Indiana, UMiami, Vanderbilt and Tulane. |
VT, JMU |
I know kids miserable there. Too much partying. No one goes to class. |

My DS is at Loyola MD and his friends all seem happy. That might be due to the fact that they aren't super strivers. They're mostly regular kids. But it is a very nice school and campus. |
DD just graduated from UCLA. Extremely happy and said every year that it was the best college experience she could have possibly had.
Sun shines almost every day. Westwood is a great college town in the middle of a huge city. Beach, Mountains, Desert. |
Notre Dame |
Small liberal arts colleges like Middlebury, Wesleyan, Haverford, Amherst.
This is very subjective. Some kids are just thrilled to be anywhere away. And some kids will be complainers no matter where they go. |
