I'll be honest, most college kids I know are pretty happy - I have one in there and lots of friends - liking Virginia Tech, JMU, Purdue, Pitt, W&M, PSU, Tulane, UTK, Dayton, U Michigan, Denver, many others,
Only complaints I have heard are UVA (too cliquish) and another that disliked Christopher Newport and left but I also know two kids that liked it there, so who knows. I also know one of my kids friends at CMU is pretty stressed but feels it will be worth it. |
Carleton kids seem pretty happy there. Smart students in a good collaborative environment. |
My DD is at UChicago and she loves it. It’s not miserable for everyone and she has a very active social life. It is a lot of work.

I haven’t met a single person young or old who didn’t enjoy UGA |
My kid there LOVES!! |
Niece at Bowdoin, another at John’s Hopkins - both love their respective schools.
DC at Brown now, loves it. Last DC Junior this year. However, I acknowledge there are kids who don’t love their experience at these schools. |

It’s very easy to make friends at Auburn. The best chance is to join a club early on and link up with people of similar interests. There is a Greek system, but students don’t limit themselves or their social lives to that scene. It’s easy to find your people if you decide not to be a part of that. |
They’re miserable. It’s cold, you can’t leave Williamstown which is a street, the school is insanely academically competitive. It really isn’t a happy-go-lucky place. It’s a school for people who want to spend all day studying and whose idea of fun is the Mock trial party on the weekend. |
That was our impression, too. Definitely for a certain kind of kid. |
Yes, some thrive in intellectual spaces and enjoy what they enjoy. If you want to go clubbing, the Berkshires aren’t really the place for that. |
