Olympics Opening Ceremony

It looks like the cast of the Voice which probably airs on NBC. Other announcers could have done better.

I am the one who posted about Snoop's misogyny and I don't think he should be there but why are you pretending he is not a clear speaker?

Because to me he was not.

In what way? Did he speak too softly? Mumble? Speak too quickly? What was it?

He mumbled, did not articulate his words. It’s kind of a mush.

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed it all, that lady who with that very stodgy military band was fabulous, the opera singer was someone I want to hear more of and the torch bearer were people I would like to learn more about, but this all had to be intentional. We didn't see much Arab/N. African representation. Why the deliberate black representation?

What?! France is a multicultural society and a former colonizer. There are black people everywhere in France, fool.

The one Beyoncé clone was from Mali, for example. Mali was at one time a French colony. Much of Africa is Francophone.

Calling someone a fool is considered extremely rude by the way (the bible even tells people not to do it)

Yes I know there are lots of black people in France and in its current and former territories. I didn’t say the representation was inappropriate or overdone. I acknowledged however that it is deliberate, and as a student of political science and sociology, just curious as to why. I am not complaining about what I saw.

What do you mean “it was deliberate?” What are you trying to say? They also had a heavy metal band of white guys. And Lady Gaga and Celine Dion.

You aren’t making any sense at all.

Yes it was strategic. If you don't agree then you can't answer my question I guess so someone else can. Again, I didn't say any of it was a bad thing.

Thanks for telling us his name because NBC sure did not.

It was shown in writing on the screen when he first appeared. Are you listening but not watching?

+1 they were horrible. Mindless fill chatter then when there was something to say, they were clueless

You should be offended by host of Peyton manning! He diverted millions of welfare funds to his daughter’s college gymnasium and is suing the journalist who exposed it for defamation! I can’t believe they picked him!

It wasn’t for the live performance. We got minimal info as things unrolled. Was horrible

I mean I think the performances were interesting but it did seem to take the focus away from the athletes; usually the opening ceremony is about as much as showing the host country’s culture as focusing on athletes.

Exactly!! Why him? They could have let the scientists responsible for the COVID vaccine carry the torch!

Are they French? Even if not they still would have been a better choice.

Yeah, since at least an audience could travel to this Olympics, thanks to them.

Snoop is not French!?
neither is Ozympic Kelly or any of the other U.S. who haws.

I was just responding to the poster who asked if the COVID developer (who I would have preferred to carry the torch) was French.

That's Brett Favre not Peyton Manning.

+1 It was a major disappointment. The worst Opening Ceremony I remember.

To add, these are the kinds of conversations we would have in college classes say before 2012 or so--academic observations about trends/history/phenomena are not always personal. Really, they are not

They sent Colin Jost to Tahiti for the surfing competitions…

I honestly feel dumber for having listened to anything Kelly and Peyton said. It was just space filler and so amateurish.

I agree, but would add Snoop to that group. WTH?

Because casting was smoking up when they picked out this crew

Poor Marie Antoinette. That was disrespectful. Also had to inject drag/“pride” into everything, why the Last Supper? Try that with other religions and good luck.

Wth in the library?? Stick to the topic. London honored it’s culture and history 1,000x better.

You do understand, don’t you, that the Monarchy lost the French Revolution. So they do not revere Marie Antoinette .
