Wow. Reading this makes clear that Trump is not a Christian, not by a long shot. Thanks PP! |
Foundational historical document to what? Not to the founding of the United States. The Ten Commandments are also not foundational to US law. The Constitution does not reference or enshrine the 10 Commandments in any way. Nor do US statutes or treaties. Nor does US Common Law, which came from colonial-era English Common Law which is about specific cases, not an enshrinement of the 10 Commandments. Only three of the 10 Commandments are generally even part of US laws, those being Murder, Theft and Perjury. |
I never said anything about taking away the freedom to practice your religion. I fail to see how practicing your religion involves making laws that govern MY behavior or my freedom FROM your religion. The right has always had a hard time understanding the concept that your rights end where mine begin. Do you and leave me alone. When your religion starts to affect me and mine, you're damn right I have a problem with it. |
So you live in Louisiana and your children attend public school? |
They don't. They're literally incapable of considering other people and their perspectives. The hypocrisy knows no bounds. |
Lordy you would have made a great German on the 1930’s!! |
You're confused. The overwhelming majority of Christians who don't vote Republican typically ARE NOT the ones foisting the Bible and Ten Commandments on public schools and other places where they don't belong. It's the conservative Christians who DO vote Republican who are pushing this stuff. |
What is your argument? That only people that live in Louisiana with kids in public school are allowed to care about this? Do you have the same energy for abortion? What does what happens in my doctors office to my body have to do with you? |
The majority of the minority? That's some pretzel logic right there. |
The Founding Fathers founded this country on a concept of freedom of religion which means a.) there is no state religion and the state can not and should not push religion on people, b.) you are free to practice your religion and c.) I am free to NOT have YOUR religion pushed on me. You are free to practice your religion at your home, your business, your church et cetera. But you are NOT free to use taxpayer-funded schools, government offices and similar spaces to proselytize others. |
You are so right. I am going to sell my house and move to Louisiana. Then I can fight this law with everything I possess. I can’t sit by a morph into a literal Nazï by living in another state and personally allowing Louisiana’s state legislature to pass their own laws! Thank you pp, I won’t let you guys down. |
Huh? What majority of minority? Nobody said that, and even if they did what's your argument against the premise here? You're still confused. Most Americans who identify as Christian don't think we need things like the Ten Commandments in schools. It's only the ones who identify as conservative Christians that do. And most Americans who identify as conservative Christian vote Republican. Those are simple, straight-forward statements. If they confuse you then all I have for you is a smile and letting you know your lingering confusion is entirely a "you" problem. |
The majority of Christians vote republican. That is well established. https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2021/08/30/most-white-americans-who-regularly-attend-worship-services-voted-for-trump-in-2020/ So you are saying "The overwhelming majority of Christians who don't vote Republican typically" (i.e. the minority of Christians) "ARE NOT the ones foisting the Bible and Ten Commandments on public schools and other places where they don't belong. " That's the pretzel logic. |
You sound both misogynist and elitist. Not following those 10 commandments very well now are ya. |
There’s that famous anti-theist love/tolerance. My opinion is that posters who call other posters names and insult their intelligence probably aren’t good people, no matter what their religion is or isn’t. People who act like that are just unpleasant and not able to talk about issues rationally. The first person who loses their temper or calls names in a discussion, loses. |
