"All Gender Bathrooms"

I feel like you are picturing this in your head:

And this simply isn't what colleges have.

Most have this:

Or this:

And in that photo where it says Outer Curtain, 2 of my kid's dorm bathrooms had solid, locking doors there not curtains.

DD reports that she was more exposed and saw more exposed people while changing for PE in HS than she ever did in college. No one walks around in these bathrooms naked or even half-naked. She says that females wear robes and guys typically wear boxers and a tee or a tee and shorts. Guys don't even go shirtless in them.

I would be really uncomfortable with those setups in a gym bathroom or at work as an adult woman. School is worse. Unless there’s some sort of resource constraint, having all coed bathrooms seems like ideology being forced on young women in a way that likely makes many uncomfortable.

That middle one is unacceptable.

Bring clothes in the shower with you or leave them out in the common area while you shower?

Eh? I am confused.

Just bring a robe with you. Jeez. All your bits are covered.

"Ideology"? Stop drinking the fox koolaid.

Co-ed bathrooms like these have been around for DECADES.

The crowded dorms are the best part.

Welcome to progress in action.

Honey, have you never seen toilets in a public women's restroom????

I don't understand what you don't understand.

You have all gender bathrooms in your home, don't you?

Why is this puzzling for you?

Are you slow?

How is this comparable? In your home, one person uses it at a time. Same with the all gender bathrooms at businesses, they are for one person to use. Multiple showers lined up with small plastic curtains separating does seem inappropriate to be all gender.

Multiple people have explained that the schools that do all gender bathrooms don’t have that model.

+1
Freshman year my kid(who likes to take 90 min showers) was happy to learn there was an "all gender bathroom" in the basement of her dorm. Single bathroom, she'd happily go take a shower at midnight and enjoy her alone time

Can I ask what is it exactly that makes you feel uncomfortable? That you might be in a robe walking into that room? Do you feel comfortable wearing a bathing suit at a public pool?

Anyone who feels uncomfortable using shower areas like this can look for housing that has what they feel more comfortable with.

And by the way, what is a resource constraint?

Actually, the middle one isn’t what it they look like most of the stalls are floor to ceiling.

Either way people can choose single sex dorms if they can’t be seen in a towel or bathrobe.

I went to college where we had single-sex dorms and bathrooms, but I went to grad school in the UK where we had mixed-gender bathrooms. You walked in and the sinks were out in the open, no problem. The toilets were in little wc’s so the walls went all the way down to the ground and so did the door. It was not a stall: it was its own little “room.” So lots of privacy. Lastly, the showers were like this too: in their own little “rooms,” so you could not look down and see people’s feet, the doors closed and locked, etc. It was all fine.
