They have been doing tryouts like this since at least my oldest was trying out for U9 more than 10 years ago. Yes the 6 groupings are in order from best to worst. Then they usually have one half of mini-teams rotate around so that all the teams play each other.

When they get to older age groups, they will group current players like this and separate out the new players to play among themselves. At the top of each night of tryouts, they will "re-sort" the players.

Veteran Herndon parent here. If you are talking about the 2011 boys, the three little mini games on the side closest to the checkin tent were not where you want to see your kid. If your kid was on the farther away three groups more in the back of the field, thats a good sign. The kids in the back weren't really being mixed up with the front kids.

We had two teams this year but they are adding a third if they get enough talent. Most of the other age groups on the boys side have at least 3 teams.

I was honestly surprised at the turn-out numbers. Good luck to your player!

Whoever said the one field would be too small was right. There were around 50 2010 boys and 60+ 2011 boys.

Thats a better turn out than the 2012/2013 session.

Question for veteran Herndon parent: is it a good sign if your kid is asked to play with the current members of the top team? Does Herndon ever move kids down to make room on a top team for someone from outside?

When I was there I noted about 50 boys total and saw only 2 girls.

There were actually 7 girls. Not a huge difference but we might as well state facts. My daughter was one of the 7.

What a dumb crazy thing to lie about. 7 is so obviously not 2, thats just a straight up lie.

Some current HYS 07 trapped girls will stay at Herndon. Probably around 4-5 players. Some 08 players that went to either AC Milan or GFR will play for Herndon as well. Currently, HYS has a 2008 girls team for the spring season with 12 players. Most should stay at HYS next year.

Not sure about the girls side. A parent told me they send out offers for the boys black teams after the first tryout (that's not my son's level so i don't know how accurate that is.)
