Best way to keep kid from getting a tattoo while in college

Anonymous
Get a whole bunch of tattoos yourself, including a portrait of him on your arm, to make it really uncool!

Ugh. They just make such terrible decisions at this age about what the tattoo is,placement etc. Everything is a trend and fades away.... the lower back butterflies, the tribal arm bands, etc.

We told our kids that when they have their own health insurance, that to us qualifies them as full-blown adults capable of making permanent decisions about their bodies including tattoos. They are 26 and 24 now and tattoo-free fwiw.

And no, we didn't have them circumcized.

Discuss the tattoo style. And subject matter & placement.

Scroll through the artists portfolio together

And then ultimately, offer to help with money, bc the good artists can be much more expansive than the walk-in/street shops

No, she should not discuss style and placement. Why would she do that if she doesn’t want it?
Would you help your child select type of cigarettes even if you are against smoking?

Just because cigarettes and tattoos share one characteristic (that the parent is opposed to them) does not make them equal

You guys are crazy.

A tattoo with his college teammates is most likely something he will look back fondly on for literally the rest of his life.

Nothing my mom could say would stop me from getting a tattoo in college. Luckily I saw a freshman down the hall get one and that swore me off one forever. Hers looked terrible and I just had visions in my head of what it would look like when she got older. Yuk!

Controlling an adult - not a good way to go.

Like you trying to control the mother.

How am I trying to do that? I’m just pointing out it’s a bad idea.

No, you aren’t pointing it out as a bad idea. You did, however dramatize it as controlling.

She literally said “how can I keep my kid from getting a tattoo”. That is literally the definition of controlling.

I think the word literally has control over you.
The definition of controlling is not “she literally said how can I keep my kid from getting a tattoo.”

Still waiting to hear how OP trying to stop her 18 year old from doing something is NOT controlling.

All parents should have some control over college age kid.
Someone needs to take control of you because you are dumb as a box of rocks.

All you are really doing is asking your adult kid to lie to you and hide things from you.

I got a tattoo at 19 and my parents didn't find out for a good decade. Control tactics do not work. Period.

Control tactics sure as hell worked on me. I knew there were consequences and didn’t want to abuse that.
You were a bad egg and a liar.

You are naïve and a sheep. Try growing a personality.

You’re the sheep for getting the tattoo. Try growing your own personality instead of trying to follow the cool crowd.

The cool kids don't get tattoos. The losers do. They're the ones who hang out around the smoking lounge in HS.

PP, what decade are you posting from? High schools haven't had smoking lounges in 35+ yrs.

Wrong.

What high school has smoking lounges with losers and cool kids? You sound stupid.

To you I sound stupid, but you are stupid. No one said there are smoking lounges now. There were some fewer than +35 years ago. Gain some reading comprehension.

DP Literally no HS have smoking lounges. Smoking isnt even legal for 99% of HS kids. You must be ancient.

dp. It literally does not say there are smoking lounges in high school.

Your back tracking doesnt even make sense. If these dont exist, why did you bring them up? The only thing it added to the conversation was your (extremely old) age.

You’ve either responded to the wrong post or you’re confused.

"The cool kids don't get tattoos. The losers do. They're the ones who hang out around the smoking lounge in HS."

If smoking lounges dont exist in HS, how is this relevant? I am very confused, as to why pp (you?) said this and are now saying that isnt what you said? Your gaslighting isn't very effective when it's written down in text.

Bizarre trolling from old dementia biddies?

Bizarre trolling from idiot that you were when you were young and still will be when you are old.

I'm quite sure I'm still considered young compared to you. My high school did not have a smoking lounge, so I know you are at least a few decades older than me!
Your trolling sucks though. Have fun trying to gaslight the youngins. Maybe find some who can't read, otherwise you're at quite the disadvantage.

Tattoos are pretty ugly and dumb on most people I see with them, which is a lot now. Far from being unique or an individual, it just makes you look herd minded.

Look up gaslight, I suspect you use it incorrectly often. No one cares if you’re younger, older, or whatever. Only you which is some weird flex you think you’ve got.
No one cares if you had or did not have a smoking area. Clearly, again, you’ve shown that you are off track and did not and could not follow the post. You are so off of the context of it, I’ve got second hand embarrassment for you.
