You see a little bit of a bounce in the step of a Ukrainian soldier when he or she has had the opportunity to embrace this system that allows them to better defend their turf,” Wolters said, noting that U.S. and NATO military teams traveled to Ukraine this summer to teach the armed forces there how to better use the new weapon. Officials also worried that the untrained Ukrainian military would not be able to use sophisticated equipment such as the Javelins, said Jim Townsend, a former Defense Department official. As the Ukrainian military gains experience, that is less of a concern, Wolters said. U.S. and NATO training efforts over the last few years “allow us to have comfort that with an additional Javelin comes enough soldiers with the ability to embrace that capability, absorb it, and productively use it,” Wolters said, noting that his military advice would be to provide additional Javelins to Ukraine. 1. Did the pro-Russian separatists have tanks? Javelin is for tank only. $78 k per shot. If Russian separatists didn’t have tanks, Ukrainians were not allowed to use them on non tank warfare. 2. We didn’t want russians to get ahold of a Javelin. It is great technology. Javelin is used for defense against only- not offense. Javelin was stored away from the front lines until training was completed. 2. Americans had to go to Ukraine and train Ukrainians to use the Javelin competently. It’s not like picking up a Nerf gun and inserting foam bullets and pointing and shooting. 3. Ukrainians were overjoyed to have Javelins, and Trump sold them Javelins. Obama refused. 4. Once Ukrainians became competent in sufficient number on the care and use of the Javelin, they were used by Ukrainians against the Russian tanks with great success. Tanks fear Javelins. During the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, NATO provided thousands of Javelins to Ukraine, (Trump sold the Javelin to Ukraine for defense years before 2022; helped Ukrainians train on Javelin, and helped Ukraine fight Russian aggression) where they proved highly effective. Javelins have been responsible for a part of the hundreds of armored vehicles Ukraine has destroyed, captured or damaged.[33] An image dubbed "Saint Javelin", which shows the Virgin Mary holding a Javelin launcher in the style of an Eastern Orthodox church painting, gained attraction in social media and soon became a symbol of the Ukrainian resistance against the Russian invasion.[34][35][36] The Pentagon claimed that of the first 112 Javelins fired by the Ukrainians since the start of the war, 100 missiles had hit their target.[37][38]
In a commentary from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), concerns were raised over the US stock of Javelin missiles. According to CSIS, the US has used close to one-third of its Javelin missiles; 7,000 have been supplied thus far, with the United States buying Javelins at the rate of about 1,000 a year. The maximum production rate is 6,480 a year, but it would likely take a year or more to reach that level. Orders take 32 months to deliver; the report concluded that it would take about three or four years to replace the missiles that have already been sent to Ukraine. The missile production rate could be increased greatly with a national procurement effort.[44][45][46] On May 8, 2022, Lockheed Martin CEO James Taiclet stated that Lockheed will nearly double the production of Javelins to 4,000 a year. Additionally, Ukrainian officials estimated that up to 500 missiles per day were being used in the early days of the war.[47] On August 8, 2022, the US committed to sending an additional 1000 Javelin missiles.[48] https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/FGM-148_Javelin One of the important aspects of Trump selling Javelin to Ukraine is that it takes time, training, etc, to get a defensive weapons system in place. It takes time to make these weapons, and only a certain amount can be manufactured and shipped. It’s not a fast process and if Trump had not allowed the sale of Javelin to Ukraine before the war, Ukraine would not have had them in place, be trained on them, and been able to kill so many russian tanks. The absolute morons posting on this thread have no idea about the real world and the world of fighting wars. (was in Desert Storm w tank bn, Iraqis used Russian tanks. Absolutely awesome that a tank can be destroyed by a Javelin. God Bless President Trump for giving Ukraine this weapon when Obama refused.) |

I’m confused - why would Trump have given Ukes Javelins (after Obama refused) to kill Putin’s troops if Trump was a Putin stooge?
I think the first rule of being a stooge is probably something like “don’t kill your boss’s soldiers!” So how’s that work? |
What's funny about that? Are you 12? You love death and destruction? You think it's a game? |
You sound like someone who would have supported Chamberlain's peace in our time by giving the menacing dictator what he wants. |
+1 Because he has no understanding of any complex issues. He never reads, he doesn't have the capacity to sit and listen and absorb things, he's dumb as a rock when it comes to history and foreign relations. |
Putin was not happy about Trump selling Javelin to Ukraine. Javelin is defensive and Obama’s wimpy @ss would not bite his lip and tell Putin that unless his tanks came into Ukraine, then neither he nor his tanks/tank crews would have to worry about Javelin. Trump justified it that way, Javelin is defense only. America was not selling heavy weapons to Ukraine to do anything other than to allow Ukraine to defend itself. They hysteria here is embarrassing and unserious, the people posting are uninformed and willfully ignorant. I thought people from in and around DC would be smarter but they are not. I also don’t discount they propagate willfully false information because they do not like Trump. They have made this thread and it’s completely false and stupid. Trump has helped Ukraine from the start and against the wishes of Putin. |

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg conceded to criticism that some members have been underfinancing the coalition's defense budget, saying he expects a record 18 allies to meet their military spending goal this year. "It's a point and a message that has been conveyed by successive U.S. administrations that European allies and Canada have to spend more, because we haven't seen fair burden-sharing in the alliance," Stoltenberg added. "The good news is that this is exactly what NATO allies are now doing. He added that he expects 18 of the military coalition's 31 members will meet their goal of spending 2% of their gross domestic product on defense this year, marking a sixfold increase from 2014, when allies formalized their investment pledge. However, some allies still have a way to go," Stoltenberg said, also noting that the 2% contribution constitutes a minimum expenditure. https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2024/02/14/nato-chief-concedes-spending-criticism-as-allies-up-defense-budget.html The majority of our “Allies” don’t even meet MINIMUM payments they agreed to meet. You know why? Because they don’t have to. They can free ride, free load, free base, free whatever and dopey America will pay the way and send their Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines to fight and die. America keeps millions and millions of dollars of expensive military equipment in caves in Northern Europe and Military personnel to operate that equipment 24/7/365. Because of Russia. Meanwhile, every liberal on earth orgasms over N Europe’s social programs. A country can spend tons of money on social programs while America stashes expensive weapons and manpower around their country to defend said country? Who would have guessed? |

translation: Trump brought attention to this ongoing problem in a very public way, a way most Americans pay attention to. (omg TRUMP IS A WARMONGERING WARMONGER HALP US PETE BUTTEIGIG RIDE YOUR BIKE INTO MAR A LAGO AND DEFEET HIM!11!!”) Now, for the election cycle, a few countries will expend the minimum amount agreed to. *weak clapping, clears throat, whispers: “remember, Trump is Hotler.” leaves podium without taking a single question.* |
This gives me hope. The MAGA are stupid people. Trump is an idiot. |
Trump was smart enough to give Ukraine heavy weaponry to fight Russian tanks. Obama was not; also, Obama didn’t want to anger Putin. Trump is fighting with Ukraine and Obama let Putin take Crimea. |
No, Russipublicans are the reason that the US hasn’t been able to send sufficient aid. And that’s the way the Party of Russia likes it. |
-1 Because Americans don’t pay attention and are largely unaware of the inadequacies of NATO member payment deficits, Trump uses hyperbole to inform them. democrats go wild and insist he’s asking Putin to invade. Watch out Vlad; St. Javelin is crushing your tank crews, courtesy of DJT. |
