University of Richmond thoughts

UR is selective, has a high endowment per student, and has a nice campus (perhaps the nicest in Virginia). It does pretty well in outcomes. On the flip side it is really expensive if full pay.

They are parents of kids who didn't get in.

With W&L yes, not the others.

So Richmond is better than UVA and W&M? Test score ranges and % submitting say otherwise. Richmond is almost at Pepperdine level test optional levels and doesn't have the west coast excuse. Nice try.

The “stats” at ur aren’t real. All test optional. Inflated GPAs. No one who can get into UVA or W&M goes there.

Your obsession strongly suggests a rejection from U Richmond in your family, no neutral person posts like this.

Nope. Just tired of college admissions reps citing “stats” when we all know those are easily manipulated. Not fooling anyone.

Well, if U of R's stats are manipulated, So are pretty much every other schools'. They all do this. It's all just smoke and mirrors, so just go where you like the vibe and stop obsessing over rankings.

Tell me you've never set foot on an Ivy League campus without telling me you've never set foot on an Ivy League campus. U of R rich is like thinking Nordstrom is high fashion.

This applies to UVA and W&M as well.

Not really. UVA and W&M have 60% submitting scores which is actually remarkably high for TO schools. Richmond's % is in the gutter with Pepperdine.

U of R's student body is verifiably more wealthy on average than many ivies and top schools. NYT did a story on this years ago. Very high % of students from the top 1%.

UR is what it is. A third option for kids that go to wealthy prep schools and can’t get into an elite or near elite school. They’d go to an Ivy or a duke/uva/vanderbilt if they could. Then they’d go to a WashU or an Emory or a Davidson or Wake. Richmond comes into play with a Bucknell or a SMU or a TCU when they don’t have those other options. Nothing wrong with that. At all. But let’s not pretend that it’s something it’s not.

Agree. I don’t think kids at our prep school view UR as an Ivy alternative. It’s one of the 250-300 schools that are fine schools.

I think Richmond has very interesting and unique programs that are relevant (jepson leadership school, robbins business school, joint IR/business majors, etc). Active arts programs. Seems like an innovative and pragmatic (vs preprofessional) liberal arts school. I also liked richmonds commitment to undergrad teaching. I like the summer stipend for kids who take unpaid or low paid internships. I see similarities to vanderbilt and wake forest.

You won’t find two schools more alike than Richmond and Bucknell. Two peas in a pod. Richmond is the Bucknell of the South.

This seems right.

These anti-UR posts are dumb and stupid. UR is a peer of Davidson, Wake, and W&L, and possibly Bucknell, which you can also argue is a peer of those schools. It is not a peer of SMU, TCU, Sewanee, or Furman. Those are all fine schools as well, but UR is in the next echelon up. Sorry you haters didn't get in.
