OP here.
1. She's not running.
2. Americas aren't electing a woman right now (I'm a woman)
3. No one outside MI or a political junkie knows who she is

1. You’ve changed your criteria since your OP.
2. Says you, since democrats are pinning all their hopes on abortion and turning out women, maybe have a little more respect?
3. Nikki Haley had an even lower profile

OP here.
1. I’ll give you that. She has show no interest in running. But let’s say she wants to run, sadly #2 still holds. People always find some excuse why to not vote for a woman.

I disagree with you about #2. Look how close Clinton came and frankly Whitmer is a significantly better candidate. Add to that she likely carries Michigan which Biden willingly gave up in order to support Netanyahu, and again, she’s my candidate of preference (once again playing by your original rules not your “the only allowed answer is Biden” rules)

I’m OP. I absolutely LOVE Whitmer. I want her to be President. I’m thrilled no one mentioned Gavin Newsom because we all know yhink he deserves the Presidency. But this is not the time.

No, I’m not saying, “only correct answer is Biden.” I’m really truly trying to get people to accept the reality that AT THIS MOMENT Joe Biden is best positioned to beat Trump.

I wish this weren’t the case.
I wish after Trump tried to overturn our election and incited an insurrection Senate Republicans would have voted to convict him. But they didn’t.
I wish after all but a handful of Maga Trump candidates lost in 22, the GOP would’ve seen that staying close to him they would continue to lose seats. But they didn’t.
I wish after Roe was overturned, MAGA realized that abortion bans were a losing issue, but they didn’t.

Yes, I wish the world was different. But it isn’t.

Then start a thread that says “I want you to vote for Joe Biden”

Don’t start a thread asking for alternatives and then being upset when you’re given alternatives that meet your original criteria. It is— if this is possible on DCUM— disrespectful to the intelligence of the people you’re talking to and certainly not helping anyone’s view of Biden supporters.

OP here. NOPE. The issue is thread after thread, poster chime in with “any other Democrat would beat Trump”.

My post was to tease that out, to get an actual name of who that “any other Dem” might be.

6 pages in and no one has named a candidate that would come close to having the name ID, the infrastructure or the political chops to beat Trump.
I would’ve been All In had somebody named public figure that would have a better chance of beating Trump. This thread only shows there isn’t a stronger candidate or consensus.

The time to complain was a year ago. It is now January 2024. We need to stop complaining and pull on our big boy and big girl panties and get behind Joe Biden.

People named candidates. You then made the new rule they had to be running for president. Only one Democrat is— that’s how a party system works.

So no, no one needs to “stop complaining” that the party doesn’t prioritize them. They need to complain more loudly, in more polls, and to every elected official because it’s very clear that their votes are being taken for granted.

Instead of telling people who Biden has ignored to “stop complaining” why don’t you put on those big girl pants and get your candidate to…do better?

He can call the UN Ambassador tomorrow to stop vetoing SC resolutions on Gaza.

He can mandate family-friendly policies in the Federal government— the country’s largest employer!— tomorrow.

Or he can keep on delivering for white men and hope everyone else will get scolded by someone to “stop complaining!” and come to the polls to keep him in his job.

I DID NOT change the rules. I said name someone who could jump in the race TODAY and beat Trump. Whitmer isn’t going to. Richie Torres isn’t going to. Not today. Maybe in 4 1/2 years. I really hope so!

Please understand not liking your choices doesn’t mean you don’t have one.

From one of your earlier posts:

OP here.
1. She's not running.
2. Americas aren't electing a woman right now (I'm a woman)
3. No one outside MN or a political junkie knows who she is

I guess this just another Biden rah rah rah thread.

OP here. You are correct. My post - she's not running wasn't fair. What I meant was she hasn't signaled that she would run. But I admit, I was wrong. I still stand that Klobcher or Whitmer don't have the name recognition to jump in this late in the game to win. And the premise of my thread was just that. I was asking those posters who keep saying in Jan, 2024 that a "generic Dem" would be better, to name what generic Dem COULD jump in NOW. I was asking who your policy choice is, who you would have liked to have run starting 2023, but WHO NOW? And now pages into this, no one has made a case for anyone who could declare today (pretending we don't have filing deadline) and still beat Trump. Because the election is NOW and still complaining is just mad it's cloudy & raining when you wanted to go to the beach. It sucks but it is what it is.

So again, I was wrong on point 1.

Biden will have no serious challenge for the nomination as long he stays in the race. If he were to drop out of the race, of course we could easily find someone with a better chance of beating Trump but those people will only seek the nomination if Biden is out of the picture. For this reason, this conversation is useless as long as Biden is seeking the nomination.

But if he were to drop out, besides Harris, who could jump in and beat Trump? Let’s say the President endorsed that person. Who should that be? This whole thread is to name a candidate instead of Gen Dem. Who?

Whitmer would easily carry a few mid-western states that are currently the swing states that Biden may or may not win. She'd win 70% to 80% of the electoral votes against Trump. To the people on this thread that say they wouldn't vote for her because she is a woman, I'd like say take your misogynistic butt to a tall bridge and jump. She could win without your vote and we'd be better off with her winning and you under the bridge.

I said Obama too, but I don’t believe this will happen. First of all, there is no way to replace Biden at the convention without going through Harris. Second of all, I don’t think she wants it.

This…which why she wasn’t my pick, but is actually part of why I think she’d do it so well.

I don’t think they’ll replace Biden. I think power is a hell of a drug.

Or the fact that he already beat Trump once and has had the most significant presidency in decades. But sure. “Power.”

OP has started a great thread here. I didn’t realize how many of you were just nuts.

Yeah someone who spent his entire adult life seeming progressively higher political office definitely isn’t motivated by power. You’re totally right.

I get that you want people to vote for your guy, but this level of worship is cringe.

There’s nothing “cringe” in my post (and unless you’re under 25, the use of that slang feels pretty cringey). Biden shepherded us through the worst that the GOP has brought us in decades. I thought the man was insane when he said he was uniquely positioned to beat Trump but he was right. He beat Trump and he’s probably going to do it again.

And by your metric I guess we should all just vote for the person who least wants power since according to you the very act of putting oneself on the ballot is an aspiration for power. I voted for Biden with no joy in 2020. I’m going to be happily voting for Biden in 2024. But you go ahead and make yourself feel powerful by writing in Jill Stein again! I would guess you take no responsibility for what you voted for then, either.

Oh and it is quite the list of achievement.

1) Surrendered in Afghanistan
2) Embolden Putin to invade Ukraine after the display of sheer weakness in Afghanistan
3) Wanted to setup a Ministry of Truth after his censorship campaign in twitter came crumbling down.
4) Moronic vaccine mandate
5) Buy off votes with college debt reduction
6) Storing classified information in his garage
7) Bare tits on Whitehouse ground, cocaine found in the Whitehouse
8) A Master class in white privilege on display with all things related to Hunter Biden

I am gonna stop for now because the greatness of this list is just too much.

Numbers 2 and 5 aren't Biden's best moments for sure. The rest are are weak talking points. Biden's weakness as a 2024 candidate is less about his job performance in his first term and more so related to a perception of him being potentially unfit to serve through 2029 due to his age and current signs of deteriorating mental health. Fortunately for Biden, Trump's unfitness is more obvious and undeniable.

I'm happy we're out of Afghanistan. We were pissing away American lives and money. Even if you claim someone else could've managed it better, the fact is that Bush, Obama, and Trump never managed it at all.

2) Embolden Putin to invade Ukraine after the display of sheer weakness in Afghanistan Putin invaded Ukraine because he didn't have Trump to do his bidding anymore
3) Wanted to setup a Ministry of Truth after his censorship campaign in twitter came crumbling down. We have a huge foreign interference with fake information problem in this country, what is your solution?
4) Moronic vaccine mandate The only people forced to get them were federal employees.
5) Buy off votes with college debt reduction student loans should be cheap, most of them have more than paid the debt, just not the ridiculous interest
6) Storing classified information in his garage no crime committed. What about the guy who left them in an unsecure place and let foreign spies rummage through?
7) Bare tits on Whitehouse ground, cocaine found in the Whitehouse paid a porn start for sex...IOW, so what.
8) A Master class in white privilege on display with all things related to Hunter Biden and? I give you Ivanka, Eric, Junior and Jared

My vote for him was sort of indifferent in 2020. (Happy to vote against Trump, Biden was probably my 3rd choice of the Democrats.) My vote in 2024 will be very enthusiastic. He has done way more than I expected. ARPA, Bipartisan Infrastructure, Inflation Reduction Act, Medicare drug price negotiation, higher ACA subsidies, CHIPS, avoided the recession everyone said we would have, lower inflation than other Western nations, a reinvigorated NLRB with pro-Labor policies, and international diplomacy that helped Ukraine resist Russia despite predictions that Ukraine would be defeated in weeks.

Yes, he has been amazing. The media only focuses on Trump. It’s all Trump, all the time. On all channels. The media feeds the beast.

Whitmer or Torres given the endorsement of the current President and the backing of the party could beat Trump.

You are correct that they will not get that. You are correct that you posed a hypothetical question which it is clear will not come to pass. People really struggle to give up power.

But that does not mean because the Democrats didn’t do what Biden promised he would in 2020 (remember the caretaker candidate? I know it was a long time ago..) that Biden is owed votes. It’s incredibly condescending to look at achievements that overwhelmingly benefited white men and start lecturing women and BIPOC to “stop complaining”. I hope you realize how much you’re part of the problem.

Tell your candidate to start listening to what voters are telling him instead of yelling at them because he doesn’t like what he’s hearing.

If you’re not happy with Biden’s policies then how would his endorsement sway you? If he dropped out and he and The Party got behind one of these wouldn’t we just hear THE DNC put up their thumb on the scale? How exactly should Biden drop out, endorse someone other than his VP without a large group of voters being more angry?

This is kind of a silly question. Biden won't drop out. I do wonder if Harris would run because she is not popular enough imo. Then we'd be in a pickle.

The question isn’t who should run if Biden were to drop out, the question was WHO is this mythical “generic Dem” who could beat Trump that people keep claiming exists. I always ask ppl to name someone but they never come up with a name. Posters love to say “any other Dem would be better” but never name who could be.

At least on this thread we got few names:
Gretchen Whitmer
Michelle Obama
Richie Torres
Jared Golden
Hillary Clinton
Gavin Newsom

Whitmer’s in the lead with 4 votes.

I'd happily vote for any of these aside from Newsom I can't stand, Michelle Obama who isn't even a politician, and HRC who is fantastic but stands no chance. I am sure most Democrats and many independents would vote for these other candidates as well. Why would they not when the alternative is Trump?
