You have got to be kidding me. They have publicly stated they are anti-white and anti-legacy. That is not 'merit-based'. It is also discrimination. Their numbers reflect this. |
That is your summary of my post? That's not even remotely what we were told/experienced or what I said. And while your last sentence may be correct at some schools, it's not at Hopkins. |
Johns Hopkins is throwing away their legacy of being a respected and honored institution over the DEI movement. |
1000 percent. Compared to its peer schools, Hopkins is much more about academic achievement when it comes to admissions. Period. So, sure there are a few recruited athletes etc etc. But, nothing like other schools. This may not work for every student, like those who want school spirit to be built around the football team, for instance. But it does make admission more straightforward. |
Which is all very well and good in principal. But 18 percent white is ridiculous. 75 percent of the US is white. Show me the numbers that Black and Hispanic students are doing so much better than the white students applying to places like Hopkins. I'll wait. I'm all for meritocracy. Academic achievement should be the metric. But this is just DEI racism. |
18% white is the result of rabid DEI. |
Agree. And if they are adhering to the new SC ruling, there is absolutely no way the next incoming class can be only 18-19% white. It is racial discrimination. |
45% of Maryland is white, where JHU is located, not 75%. |
This source says 34%, but still pretty significant. https://thehill.com/changing-america/enrichment/education/577722-more-than-a-third-of-white-students-lie-about-their/#:~:text=A%20survey%20from%20Intelligent%20found,their%20chances%20of%20getting%20accepted. |
NP, but JHU recruit nationally, not just from MD. |
Actually you are wrong. That 75% you quoted includes white Hispanics. The White, non-Hispanic population of the US is 58.9%…and this number includes people of middle eastern and North African origin. This means the actual white population is probably closer to 55%. |
And you think DEI stops it from happening? It does not. The majority population is always going to be blind to what doesn't affect them, but a bunch of UMC people gaming the system by embracing their Hispanic forefathers (forefathers who were probably racist AF against the darker people from their own countries, mind), isn't creating equity--it's just another loophole. What actually would help would be making a serious effort to desegregate our elementary and secondary school systems, develop neighborhoods where socioeconomic diversity is the norm. I mean, there are places in the US where that exists now. This area--and Baltimore--are not among them. |
Waiting with popcorn to see the numbers they throw out this spring… |
If you choose to raise Pablo Garcia in a neighborhood full of Michael Sullivans, Josh Greens, and Jayden Smiths... yeah, peoples' ignorance and prejudice will definitely be a factor.
I say that as someone who raised "Michael Sullivan" in a school full of Pablos. I realize the experience isn't the same, but it's not nothing. Why'd I do it? Because I went to a socioeconomically and culturally diverse school and I felt that experience was the kind of education I wanted my kids to have. Sadly, because the DMV is so segregated, truly diverse schools are few and far between, and at them class divided are encouraged, not bridged. |
This isn't the incoming class because the admissions cycle is not over. The numbers represent the class of 2027 that was admitted pre-Supreme Court decision. You have to wait until Fall 2024 to determine what they are doing. |
