Somehow Trump endorses anyone but himself and his supporters move to them? In what world are they living in? OF COURSE Trump is going to bring down the whole party if he's not the nominee. PP here. Thank you, that’s exactly what I meant. In fact, if Trump didn’t get the Republican nomination, I think he would focus all of his rage at Nikki Haley and the RNC. He would actually try to help Biden win in order to punish the RNC for not nominating him.

Trump vs a normal Dem candidate in the general election is a guaranteed victory for the Dems. Biden vs Trump is a toss up. Biden vs a normal GOP candidate is a guaranteed victory for the GOP. Yes, this would be the case if Trump's removal from the race happened after Biden was nominated. If Trump expires or otherwise withdrew from the race prior to Biden being nominated, Biden would withdraw as well and the Dems would nominate someone of equal competence to Haley and that Dem nominee would be a slight favorite to beat Haley.

I don't doubt this but in a hypothetical match-up, Haley would be a lock to beat Biden but DeSantis wouldn't provide for an absolute guarantee of victory over Biden. I think DeSantis would fair only slightly better than Trump in a general election. A normal Dem candidate would crush DeSantis and would be a slight favorite against Haley. The fact that DeSantis has an edge on Haley in the what if Trump couldn't run hypothetical race makes this conversation a moot point.
