OP, we are here for you, united as parents. We are rooting for you and for your daughter and your family. Just keep doing what you feel is the best next step, one step at a time. Keep advocating, pushing and asking questions. I agree with the poster who says to talk to the nursing supervisor.

Still thinking of you and your daughter OP and hoping that no viruses or germs get anywhere near her.

She's got pain relief so was awful to hear. The nurse said she'll get the new doctor to do a more thorough check when he starts rounds. She was starting to sound breathless and was quietly crying, but that's her trying to be as brave as possible.

About 30 mins later machines started beeping, her heart rate had shot up and her oxygen had dropped. The nurse has told me the pressure and fluid in the lungs has caused a pneumothorax (I think that's the word used) they're having to insert a tube in her side. She's already still so weak I don't know how much her body can take. I'm in tears right now. I'd do anything to swap places with her so she doesn't have to suffer. DH is better and is coming back and I need him as much as she does

She's strong, she's got this.

I'm sorry to hear this development, my dear. My doctor husband says it's a complication of the ventilation. Please ask as many questions as you can, and stay on top of it.

OP is there anything else we can do for you? Do you have someone to setup a go fund me? Have a friend post where we can send you door dash? DO you have people to do other child pick up, pet sitting, whatever? Have us research the world's greatest sepsis and ventilation complications expert? (seriously). Is there anything at all we can do?

OP here - It's going to be a long night, but hoping recovery continues.

We're fortunate to both be in understanding jobs. Not once have we been nudged to return to work. We have both grandparents in state, mine have driven hours to be in my spare room. DH still has friends living here from his school days that are like brothers and spoil our kids more than we do. They're desperate to see her and take our load off but understand for now just me and DH need to be here.

We have everything and barring my disagreements the doctors have never stopped caring. Thank you for the generosity. I will be making a donation to children's hospital charities. And learning first aid is my lesson so far. If I'd known even the tiniest bit about health I fear I could have spotted it sooner.

Tonight is the night everything comes together and she makes a leap in her recovery I can feel it.

I just wanted to say to OP - I don't live in DC and have been following your story and praying for your daughter. I hope you know other parents across the country are sending you and your family hugs.
