I wanted to make a post just to externalise my stress and fear. Daughter had a fever, a few hours later it got worse and then she quickly started breathing faster. We noticed a rash and called 911 and have spotted the signs of sepsis early so that's our hope. I just couldn't keep it to myself and DH and need prayers from many, she's a fighter but I'm terrified I didn't get her checked earlier in the fever.
Has anyone been through this, when or does it get better. Thank you. I'll try to post occasionally and sorry to burden this on you |
| No experience with this but sending you all good vibes. Hope she is better soon! |
| There's a positive blood culture already? |
| I'm so sorry OP. Hugs to you and DD. Asking the universe to help her get healthy. |
| Praying. |
| She will get antibiotics on board and they will do their job. Praying for you OP. |
|
You did everything right, OP. It's not your fault.
She's generally healthy, right? She'll get through it. My elderly MIL with all sorts of pre-existing conditions recovered from sepsis in the hospital. It's normal to be scared. Big hugs to you and your daughter! Focus on making her as comfortable as possible, both physically and psychologically. |
| Please update OP...hoping it does not turn out to be sepsis but kids typically recover if so. |
| Our son had sepsis this summer. He spent a few nights in the hospital but thankfully recovered. The doctors at Georgetown blasted him with antibiotics and what they did worked. We started with similar symptoms at Urgent Care and were told to go to another suburban hospital but had to leave there against doctor’s advice because they were taking forever for transport to arrive to take him to Georgetown or Children’s and we felt they were wasting precious time waiting around doing nothing for him as he was getting sicker before our eyes. Dont be afraid to take your daughter straight to Georgetown or Children’s to get treatment underway even if it means leaving where she is now. Time matters. Praying for a speedy recovery. |
PP here again. Once the doctors started the antibiotics our son started to get better before our eyes. It was remarkable. It took a few days for a full recovery but it happened. |
| Breathing faster and a rash does not mean sepsis. These can both be normal with a fever. Hopefully that is the case with your DD and all is well |
| Prayers and hugs, OP. I am thinking of you. |
| This happened to me as a child. Back then, I was in the hospital a long time, but started to feel better within a few days of the beginning of treatment. Praying for your child! |
| Thinking of you OP |
| OP here both myself and DH can't be in with her at the moment. The EMT put some monitors on her and said her heart rate was a bit too fast and oxygen was low. They've given her a mask and put lots of tubes in for her to get antibiotics. She's less awake and isn't too aware of all that's happening than when we called but trying not to panic about everything. Hoping your prayers reach her, thanks all for the words. |
