Harvard applied much higher admissions standards to Asian applicants, with the lowest admission rates despite having the highest scores. Blacks, by contrast, have the lowest scores and GPAs but the highest admission rates among races. If that is not discrimination, then there is no such thing as discrimination.

How will this be policed and disclosed going forward? Can't Harvard just use some other fig leaf to get to the same result?

Thank you - as a well educated African American woman, this is a bitter pill to swallow. My kids will be fine but as a long time local prosecutor, man have I met some smart kids who due to circumstances, will never ever have the grades and test scores to meet some college admission criteria. However, these same kids would do well in the right circumstances on a college campus if given the opportunity. Many of these Asian families have no shortage of money for tutoring and other enrichment classes and can get into MANY colleges - not just the one they want, while the kids I have described will not get into any.

If they will not get into ANY college, then they definitely have no business getting into Harvard.

We don’t have a good history in connection with the official use of racism regardless of the intentions of those who have discriminated based on race.

The problem has always been that the schools want to be *sort of selective* with respect to one group of candidates, not *as much with others* and the difference was based on race. There are plenty of solutions, including the most obvious one, which is simply ditching selectivity. Texas solved this problem years ago with its guaranteed admission to the two state flagship schools for any student graduating in the top 10% of their Texas public high school (since then refined to top 6% for UT).

You know where race in admissions isn’t an issue and deep red republicans don’t care about this program? Texas. But as long as Harvard and UNC want to maintain what could be labeled as “separate but equal” admissions tracks among different races, affirmative action will be radioactive and a plain violation of the law. I can’t believe people defend Harvard’s affirmative action regime when you can get to very similar outcomes without violating the law.

Break down 'Asian'.

Again, because of your racist stereotyping of Asians all the same, you haven't even broken down Asians with college degrees by descent. Like no crap, people who are Indian, Chinese, or Korean probably have college degrees because they have the highest median house hold income out of all girls in the country. Now do Asians with college degrees who are of South East Asian descent from areas like Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Philippines, Burma or from areas like Bangladesh, etc.

Those from East Asian and North East Asian and the Indian Subcontinent have been here much longer and have acquired vastly more wealth than Asian people of different descent. All Asians are not the same. Can you get that through your racist, thick skull?

That's 100% true. And I would not want an incoming class where the only thing that mattered was their score/grades. It's not just a ranking of applicants based on 2 data points that makes an interesting freshman class.

Absolutely. If you think diversity at Harvard is fig leaf and Harvard thinks it is important, why do you want to attend? You do not even agree with their educational mission.
