Which schools DON'T go to the "other" pile for McKinsey?

I hate what this area has become. Students aspiring to be MBB consultants instead of nonprofit workers. FinTech instead of medicine. BigLaw instead of ADAs or DoJ. I’m not even that old but I feel angry and resentful, missing the more innocent days of the nineties.

What really gets me is that they aren’t going to medical school, engineering, urban planning, PhD biology programs … I don’t care so much that they aren’t going to “do gooder” jobs, but they aren’t doing *anything* enriching to themselves (other than $$) or society. What a waste of brainpower and the privilege of a top college education.

These days, many more kids who choose those schools have been pushed and trained to get into those schools for their own sake and prestige; in other words they have been trained to grab the next brass ring because they are entitled to it and it makes THEM look better, not because it enables them to do something useful for the world. After all, you can do the latter from ANYWHERE often for less money and while having more fun. Someone is teaching the likes of OP that McKinsey is some prize job because their morals and priorities and even their entire world view is completely off.

They are awesome at running powerpoint/spreadsheet companies but could probably not find their way out of a paper bag, god forbid, actually run a company in the real world. Every time we hire them, its $1M to tell us the TAM is in the billions- do it! but we realize .000000001% of that.
Honestly I love their powerpoints so I am not hating on them, but they live in different world than people actually running companies.

You only hate PE if you are not one of their lovies.
If you are, you love PE firms.
Be super important to a company they acquire and see what I mean.

Why the hell are BYU and Howard on here... even BU and Wake are questionable

BYU and Howard are very good schools. Shouldn't top companies be intentionally casting a wide net to get great employees? They no longer want to focus so much on places like HYPS. This expansion of new grad recruiting is happening in banking and big tech too.

Howard? OMG that may have been my biggest LMFOA this week. Look, people. let's be real. This list is obnoxious and stupid - having a category for IVY? A sign you should not apply. But when you put schools that are midrange at best because they appeal to some crazy lib group, you are a laughingstock. Hmm, MIT or Howard guy- cant decide... (and other stories that never happened)

When will this BS stop?

But how much does the school help with starting salary if you accept mostly rich people as students? Being rich with connections to other rich people can’t be overlooked.

Revised with the missing school
Northeastern is higher than schools like UVA, Emory, Georgetown, Northwestern, etc..
Overall ranking of Northeastern seems to be very underrated.

Interestingly, Howard & BYU are tied for 89th on USWNR. Neither one belongs on McKinsey’s list.

I am not defending McKinsey...however:

"Many executives have consulting backgrounds themselves. McKinsey alone counts 70 Fortune 500 CEOs among its alumni, including the current CEOs or COOs at Google, Facebook, and Morgan Stanley. Indeed, a greater share of McKinsey employees become CEOs than any other company's in the world."

BYU is going to produce hardworking mature graduates. Howard is going to produce diverse workers. I'm not surprised to see either on the list

I believe OP created the dumb Ivy category.

McKinsey site doesn't have it.

You know why Howard is there.

You put way too much stock in USNWR and rankings generally.
