Alcoholics frequently self-medicate. The fact that you have a mental illness and use alcohol as a means to feel better makes you an alcoholic.

She is the victim of alcoholism. It’s a disease.

DP. Alcoholism is a disease but it is a different type of disease than cancer. Alcoholics will always be alcoholics but they can learn to control their use of alcohol (and usually avoid it altogether) so that they aren't at its mercy; cancer victims cannot do the same thing. Don't try to paint alcoholics as martyrs or victims because they aren't.

Alcoholism is a disease that, if the person with it doesn't follow treatment for, can kill others. Drunk driving, for example. Cancer, even untreated, does not have the same effect.

Stop pretending alcoholics shouldn't be held accountable because their disease-tgat helps no one.

I hope the woman whose home she destroyed is doing ok. I hope she gets the financial compensation to try to rebuild what she can and regain some sense of safety. I'm sure some of the destroyed items can't be replaced.
