The fact is that Northwood expansion will do more for DCC overcrowding than Woodward will and just going down the numbers it’s unlikely that Woodward will accommodate more than 500 DCC students when it opens and that number will need to decline over time as more housing gets built in North Bethesda, which the county not only plans to do buy is also prioritizing.

Or just reading the actual stated purpose of the re-opening of Woodward Northwood is definitely going to help with Blair’s overcrowding issue but Einstein is just as overcrowded as WJ and Blair.

They aren't going to worry as much about Einstein or Blair as much as WJ and mid-county schools. Lets be real.

What does that even mean?

Woodward will help with DCC overcrowding indirectly by dealing with overcrowding in MCPS in general. Some people sem to have this fantasy that their boundaries will remain in tact while those poor DCC kids will be bused across the county to Woodward. This will never happen. Woodward's boundaries will be carved out of those from the adjacent schools and those will also be adjusted. This cascade of adjustments can be used to help with overcrowding as it propagates through the boundaries. The county could save a ton of money on transportation by making more sensible boundaries; for example, is it Wootten that has the long narrow boundary where the school is at the far end and a separate island off to the north? People who literally live across the street from Wootten, Einstein or Blair don't attend those schools. In the case of Blair, I get it since there are no high-schools in the SE part of the county, but there others border on ridiculous.

I know this is going to burst the whole fantasy you have going on, but the closest HS to Woodward are WJ obviously, and wait for it…..Einstein, then Wheaton and BCC are each the same distance to Woodward.

Yes, Einstein, WJ and BCC are all adjacent.

Some of Wheaton’s area is immediately adjacent too. Viers Mill ES used to go to Woodward in it’s previous life.

Lol. Things have changed since 1987!

But the proximity of Viers Mill ES to Woodward has not changed.

I also didn’t understand the point that PP was trying to make. The bottom line is moving kids from the DCC, particularly Einstein and Wheaton, does not involve some cross county journey.

Actually it is a pretty big trip depending on where you pull from.

None of the feeders to Wheaton or Einstein are what I would classify as a “pretty big trip” except maybe Woodlin, and the chances of Einstein’s highest performing and lowest FARMS feeder being re-zoned are probably pretty slim. All of Wheaton’s feeder ES are less than 5 miles from Woodward, and Woodlin and Flora Singer are the only Einstein feeders further than 5 miles (and even those are only 6 miles or so away). I know it is all conjecture at this point, but I would say there are probably only a handful of schools that will be considered to move from Einstein or Wheaton to Woodward, the ones that are the closest (OTES and Highland from Einstein, and Viers Mill and Sargent Shriver from Wheaton).

I’m going to guess this person believes that Bethesda will be prioritized over everything else and that at some point the BOE will say sorry DCC we know we said all along we were going to include the DCC in the Woodward planning but you know these Bethesda kids really just need the extra space, keep on keepin on in your portable classrooms! 20 years ago, that probably would have happened, but I don’t see that happening now in today’s climate, and given the perception of the W schools vs the other schools in the county.

It means that the DCC get far less and they aren't going to worry about overcrowding as much in DCC vs. a school like WJ.

What would make more sense is not to put any students there and use it a a holding school to get more schools remodeled right now. The condition some schools are in is deplorable.

With covid, I'd rather have my kids in a portable. In this situation, given the location it makes sense to prioritize Bethesda and I don't want my kids bused or have to drive them cross town for a school that isn't any better than what we have nearby.

I went to a W school. I have zero interest in sending my kids to one which is why we are where we are at.

Since Woodward isn’t re-opening until 2025, the COVID situation will obviously be different and hopefully a non issue. People clearly have different perspectives, I went to a private school (not in the DMV) that was 15 miles away from my house and was legitimately across town, I took a bus to and from school until I could drive and it was not an issue. The ridiculous overcrowding however does bother me, if there is a brand new high school 4 miles away I will pick that every time over an overcrowded school that is cramming kids into portables.

I don't think that bursts their bubble at all since they were saying Woodward will draw from those schools adjacent to it. This makes perfect sense. Their boundaries will be adjusted to help offset overcrowding at schools adjacent to them and so on.

Makes sense to me. By reducing overcrowding at the schools adjacent to Woodward they can help reduce overcrowding at all schools not just Einsten and WJ.

And, even if it is made a DCC school, it will not change the fact that those living close to it will be "in-boundary" and have first priority. My guess is that it would be basically at capacity immediately and be like Blair, where effectively nobody can lottery in.

Then why do they call them down county when they're not? What high school service people living inside the beltway?
