latest updates on Woodward

There was a community meeting on March 9th which I missed. But I see the presentation has been linked, and looks like they are proceeding with site option 4A:

https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/uploadedFiles/departments/facilities/construction/project/Woodward%20HS%20Meeting%20-Community%20Engagement%20Session%2003.09.22-%20FINAL.pdf

On the timeline it says Superintendent Boundary Study Scope Recommendation (Estimated) for October 2023. So I assume that is likely when we will know which schools will be included in the study, but the study won't be completed until a year or more later.

Did anyone attend the meeting? Was anything else shared that wasn't in the slides?

Thanks for posting OP, I also couldn't make it to the meeting. I am happy to see that they are minimizing impact on the Edson forest. So, does anyone know, is Woodward definitely a performing arts magnet?

Didn't attend, but there are some pretty amazing spaces planned for performing arts if you look at the slides. Glad to see it! Also glad they chose 4A.

Also, the designs look absolutely gorgeous. Performing arts space plus all the typical high school athletic fields.

It's not definitely anything at this point. But they will be constructing Phase 2 of the building such that, if it does become a performing arts magnet, it would have good facilities to support it.

The county could use another STEM magnet or 3.

Not sure why they are ramming through a performing arts space. Who's agenda is this, now that Smith is gone, and besides, it is going to cost a fortune.

Einstein has Visual Arts, Northwood has performing arts, and the community didn't ask for this. We live in one of the catchment area schools that will be relieved of overcrowding once Woodward opens/after Northwood leaves.

I personally am a supporter of the arts, but our community always wanted a traditional HS, not a performing arts magnet!

Actually the community did ask for it. I thought Einstein had the preforming arts? What is the difference between the two programs?

Woodward is not part of the DCC.

Woodward is planned to relieve overcrowding in the DCC. Whether it's part of the DCC or not is to be seen.

Yes, Einstein has VAPA: Visual and Performing Arts Academy and Northwood has AMTAD: Academy of Music, Theatre, and Dance.

Our kids went to Farmland and we expect will be rezoned to Woodward when it opens. Our concern is that our oldest will be a junior the year Woodward opens. What is the likelihood they’ll have to switch from WJ to Woodward as juniors? I hope they’d let the juniors and seniors stay at their current schools and open Woodward with sophomores and freshman. Anyone know what has been done previously?

Juniors and seniors were allowed to stay where they were in a recent HS boundary change. Of course, it will be up to the new superintendent and whoever is on the board at the time.

For music, which is better?

This makes no sense when Woodward is not close to downcountry. I wouldn't want my child commuting the far.

Here's the resolution of the Clarksburg/Northwest/Seneca Valley boundary changes. You can see how the grandfathering was arranged at the end. It was pretty complicated.
