Posting on Facebook where kid is going -Yes or No

Wow this thread amazes ! You do know the kids post on social media instantly and start looking for roommates the next day right? But you are going to hold back until May because …
Other parents might be nauseated?
DCUM has such a faux old money pretense. “We Cabot’s and Lodge’s NEVER announce because of course it’s all Ivy and we are still in the 19th century here.”

Well...our DCs' school forbids social media posts as well as wearing any school gear until after May 1. So yeah, I am going to hold back until May 1 at the earliest. If they can do it, so can I.

I bet it would be close to 100%. Very bizarre views here on DCUM….

That's funny. I am in the "don't post now" and "yes, you should request" camps.

And they enforce that how? Checking Snapchat? Instagram? Or just FB? Or the text and phone? Is it a military academy?

This is illustrative of the unhealthy significance placed on college admissions and choices in certain places.

No, it's not. Some kids skirt it, but most follow the directive because they want to be good community members.

Yeah, I am curious whether the school places any restrictions on social media posts regarding other topics... say sweet 16th celebrations or travels. My guess is not.

Loud and proud. Look, I dont post every one of them (and there were a lot of them so far) but once my son decided where he was going...it was time to shout from the mountaintops loud and proud.

Dont like it? Too bad.

One of my kids' friends is going to med school on a full ride scholarship. I was so excited for him when his mom posted. That is surely something amazing I want to celebrate with him!!

Keeping up with the Farnsworths and the Danforths?

Why does the poo-poo crowd care if we share with our friends who are happy for our good news. We are in turn happy for them. I get that not everyone is the same, but why not live and let live?

Anonymous wrote:Same poster as above-- I wanted to mention a woman in my neighborhood who made a HUGE, personalized banner for her child who got into a school and hung it on the front of her house. I walked by one day and just thought how pathetic she was. It really is pathetic to shout out where your kids get into school. It is shameless bragging.

See, I would have the opposite reaction. It’s not my thing. I doubt I would ever be organized enough to order a banner. But, I would think it was really neat that the parents were excited and supportive of their child. And I would like knowing where a neighborhood kid was going to school.

You might consider changing the way you view those around you.

Nah. I am not the only one in my neighborhood that had that reaction. So I don't think I am off base. If it makes you feel better to have a superior tone, then you can have that.
