Seeing that Trump sent his son, Barron, to Columbia preparatory when they were living in NYC, his secrete dream school must have been Columbia. |
Columbia is a safety to HYP…stop kidding yourselves |
Princeton is a safety to Yale, Yale is a safety to Harvard. I don’t see what’s so different between Columbia and HYP. |
Columbia is closer to Penn and Brown. Big drop from HYP. Also very poor relative to HYP |
And yet Columbia is achieving much more than schools like Princeton, which might have a massive endowment but is still an oversized country club LAC with only arts and sciences. |
Do you people not have hobbies or bills to pay? |
| Why does every thread eventually become an argument about Columbia? Bashers seem to always find a way to bring in the school in a somewhat unrelated topic every single time. |
| Getting really tired with these Columbia boosters. Reeks insecurity all over |
Getting tired with those pathetic Columbia bashers who seem to have nothing else to do besides ranting incoherently. |
The hypsm prestige defense squad reeks even more insecurity when Columbia seemingly places better in investment banking. What heresy! |
Hudson River Trading has a list of target schools: Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, Harvard, MIT, Princeton, Stanford, Columbia, Berkeley, UT-Austin, and UIUC. This is from their application page's "Which university are you currently attending" drop-down box. | I have no connection to any of these schools but I always thought the allure and prestige of Columbia outweighed that of at least Princeton, for sure. Something about the combination of Manhattan/NYC and Ivy results in a very powerful brand. And I've always felt Columbia was always much closer to HYP than the rest of the Ivies. |
Especially when nobody from the HYP schools will ever use the acronym "HYPSM," especially not in a thread talking about Wall Street placement. |
There is no significant difference, and it's really silly to call any of these schools safeties. There are plenty of reasons to choose Columbia (or Dartmouth, or even Brown) over any of the HYP schools, and to pretend otherwise is ridiculous. But this thread is about finance placement. It doesn't matter how many kids Columbia sends to IB analyst roles each year, a similar kid at Harvard (or Wharton) will have more opportunities than one at Columbia. Hell, these days I might even add Stanford to this list since they have some West Coast buyside options that don't really exist for the usual east coast undergrad target schools. |
I take it you're reasonably young? Columbia's rise has more to do with the resurgence of NYC itself in the post-Giuliani era than anything else. The Felicity effect is very strong lol. |
