FCPS is turning the new high school purchased to fix crowding into an Aviation magnet school instead of a high school??

I believe the facilities guy said 2,200 at the working session.

I don't think so. I think they will leave that as is and take the opportunity to put everyone at Greenbriar East that is west of FFX Co Pkwy at Rocky Run/Chantilly (similar to map 4).

Well, with the multiple maps for the all county boundaries, it seems like people who complained got what they wanted.

Can we recap what is happening with Emerald Chase? They are on this side of the county, right? What did they want and what is being proposed for them?

They’ve generally referred to a 2000-student school once the school is fully retrofitted several years by now. They repeatedly talked about opening with 1000 kids in 9th and 10th grade and then adding 500 more kids for the next two years.

Looks like all of Oak Hill goes to KAA in all scenerios.

They need to wait a year. This school is not ready for prime time.

That is literally why they are starting with 9th and 10th graders and adding one grade per year as the kids age into the school. It gives them a couple years to be ready to go at full size.

I’m surprised they even published option C. Yes, Navy has a reputation for being outspoken, but I think in this case, the Navy cutout is from them realizing that Option C brought them too close to their 2200 capacity cap and they needed to trim the student count.

Options A and D seem like the only viable options. I think it’ll be something between those two scenarios. I can’t see Meren giving up that much of South Lakes in Option D, but I also doubt NONE of SL will go to KAA as proposed in Option A.

It seems to me that Option A would be best--but they should include all of Floris.

Option D is kind of mean to Discovery Square. They would be the only neighborhood on the north side of 50 going to Westfield-and that would be pretty isolating. And, it is (along with Chantilly Highlands and Highland Mews) the closest neighborhood to KAA. It is just over one mile.

I also prefer option A. It seems to fit along mostly with existing Carson boundaries?

For option C/D, I don't like that the Westfield boundary stretches so far north to so far south, and the Western HS is on an extreme corner of the map of those served.

Agreed. Option A is exactly what I was anticipating based on Reid and the school board’s comments, but given the remaining capacity, sending all of Floris instead of only the Westfield portion seems like a no brainer.

It almost looks like they carved out Option A according to the magisterial map. Only tiny portion of Hunter Mill.

You di realize a lit if the students will pull out if the over crowded schools and go to the new school therefore alleviating over crowding. Right?

Anonymous wrote:“School within a school” sounds like the stem academy at Edison. Mostly a neighborhood school with an optional magnet program for a few. I don’t see this as a major source of anger.

It sounds fantastic!! Great alternative for better education and opportunities outside or even in addition to college.

I think “A” with the Floris SLHS cutout moved is possibly the compromise, but I’m betting the concern on that is then it’s an ugly SLHS split feeder at Carson. Guessing they’re tying Fox Mill ES and the Floris SLHS as a package deal.

Is there room for Fox Mill at Hughes?
