FCPS is turning the new high school purchased to fix crowding into an Aviation magnet school instead of a high school??

I dont think option B will win because there was least 1 school board member (sorry I don't know the name) going on and on about this school bringing relief to Oakton.

Yes but he's the only one. Option B also keeps the new school smaller. More room for an Academy or Magnet type program in the future.

Both Karl Frisch and Kyle McDaniel seem to want to see the western most part of the Oakton district moved to the Western HS. McDaniel personally moves to the new Western HS under Options A, C, or D.

Oh please. What about the London Towne area, or the Meadows neighborhood. Lots of difficult family situations.

Because part of Crossfield is in Oakton? But Oakton HS is in Vienna, not Oakton.

So the mailing addresses of those moved don't really matter as much as whether the boundaries are reasonably sensible, help Chantilly, and cut down on transportation times for those with long commutes now.

You can just look at the farms rates for the feeder elementary schools and that can give you a guesstimate of the HS. Trickier with split feeders.

And, Centreville is in Clifton.....

See how this works?

I already knew how this works, but thanks for reinforcing my point.

Plenty of homes with Centreville addresses go to Westfield, not Centreville.

If McDaniel personally moves in some scenarios and not others, he really should recuse from the matter.

Why? I'm guessing all SB members live in neighborhoods that could be effected in some way.

Option A:

* Centreville enrollment declines from 2310 to 1957. Bull Run area at Centreville moves to Westfield.
* Chantilly enrollment declines from 2916 to 2225. Oak Hill moves to Western and parts of Brookfield and Cub Run move to Westfield
* Oakton enrollment declines from 2601 to 2165. Navy island and Oakton part of Crossfield move to Western.
* Westfield enrollment declines from 2710 to 2407. Coates, Floris south of West Ox, and McNair move to Western and parts of Centreville and Chantilly move to Westfield (described above).
* Western 9-12 enrollment: 1792

Option B:

* Centerville - same as Option A
* Chantilly - same as Option A
* South Lakes enrollment declines from 2410 to 2040. Fox Mill and Floris north of West Ox move to Western
* Westfield - same as Option A
* Western 9-12 enrollment: 1726

Option C:

* Centreville - same as Option A
* Chantilly - appears same as Option A but FCPS shows enrollment declining to 2218
* Oakton - same as Option A
* South Lakes enrollment declines from 2410 to 2002. Fox Mill and South Lakes part of Crossfield move to Western
* Westfield enrollment declines from 2710 to 2472. Coates, McNair, and part (but not all) of Floris move to Western, and Westfield picks up the areas from Centreville and Chantilly described under Option A
* Western 9-12 enrollment: 2142

Option D:

* Centreville - same as Option A
* Chantilly - same as Option C
* Oakton enrollment declines from 2601 to 2239. Oakton part of Crossfield (but not Navy island) moves to Western.

Personally, I think Option D is the front-runner.

They probably started with Options A and B, but McDaniel wanted to provide relief to both Oakton and South Lakes.

So, they came up with Option C, which would provide relief to four high schools (Centreville, Chantilly, Oakton, and South Lakes).

The problem with Option C is that too many students (2,142) would be going to Western School. Thus, I think they tweaked Option C by carving out a small number of students, resulting in Option D.

Under Option D, Western School will have 2,068 students. That number aligns with today’s presentation (2000+).

This is just my speculation.

Are they sure that KAA can hold 2000+ students as proposed in option C and D? They are building new town houses in the coates, mcnair area. The population is increasing. With option C or D, the new school will be overcrowded quickly in a few years.
