which school?

are these kids completely shut out? As in they have no acceptances?

Shut out as in not a single kid that applied was accepted to certain schools.

ah. I get it. Were they competitive kids (3.8+?)

How would I know?! I do not track other kids GPAs! Hopefully you don’t either?!

Yet you track other kids rejections.

Yes, why do you track rejections? Weird.

After seeing their page I have lost all respect for the DC privates. They just pretend to be competitive but it’s the NY private schools that really give your children an education worth the hefty tuition.

It’s not the ‘NY privates’ that give you this - it’s largely the families that are in the NY privates that are responsible for the outcomes. Until we in DC increase our number of billionaires and get our legacy numbers even high than they already are, not much our schools can do to hit these marks.

Sidwell has at least 4 kids going to Harvard, 9 or 10 to U of Chicago, several admits to Brown, at least two going to Dartmouth, at least two admits to Stanford, at least 8 going to Penn, multiple admits to Duke and Columbia, at least two admits to CMU...been a much better year than the last few in terms of admissions

one Stanford ed so is committed, at least one regular who has other good options

two into duke but likely not going, one of the reasons duke usually does not sidwell kids, because yield so low as sidwell kids who get into duke also tend to get into ivies and they pick an ivy

Oh please it’s the same with other DC privates with Duke and some other top schools. It’s not just Sidwell. Goodness.

Stanford does not have ED only REA
(restricted early action) and those admits are not committed to attend Stanford

NP. I think the PP meant to say the first Stanford admit was REA. Sidwell’s lone Stanford Instagram post (so far) was posted in mid-December, so that’s definitely a REA admit.

That really depends on who applied though. Top student at our school get in ED to UPenn. They probably would have gotten into other Ivies but didn't apply. So maybe shut out schools didn't have top students apply.

Yes, it feels like a lot of kids and families way over-shoot their shot. My kid is at NCS and about 10% of the class has the grades for a top 20 school and yet half of the junior class is visiting them. If there are shut-outs it's because lots of kids apply to schools they have no business applying to (based on past results from the school)

I think you’re underestimating. Over 10% of NCS senior class have already committed to top 20 schools and several more haven’t posted. Clearly everyone needs to have strong safeties, but you may be surprised.

You again. It’s none of your business where kids apply. Also you have no idea what GPAs kids have. Yes average gpa is given but you have no idea what schools kids get into. Also you will be so upset when you find out many kids will get into top schools and you will never know their gpa because ot won’t be on the Scoir. Please just focus on your own kid.

Sorry to break it to you but there will be several kids that get into top 20 schools that don’t have the gpa you think they need. It’s not as definitive as you may think.

Of course there are hooked kids but the GPA lines for the unhooked are surprisingly definite--I really thought there would be more variation based on things like extracurriculars and essays. My kid is not at NCS but we've met with college counseling at another school and have seen admission data on a number of schools.
