I don’t think people thought she was actually trying to rob the kids because that’s asinine. I thought it was more of a situation where she thought it was hers and wouldn’t listen to the boys saying she was wrong. People refuse to admit they’re wrong ALL the time (look at this thread lol).

It appears based on receipts and her lawyer’s statement that I misinterpreted the situation and I’m willing to admit that.

Question for you: do you truly believe that a significantly pregnant women coming off a work shift, would challenge a group of older male teens or adult men surrounding her? Really? In what world would that ever make sense?

I know literally no women who would not be terrified for their lives in that situation. Pregnant, surrounded by angry men? That’s objectively terrifying. And you don’t any women who wouldn’t be terrified either, if you are honest with yourself. You believed the initial take, the men, because of deeply ingrained and adopted misogyny that teaches you that scared women are “hysterical” and their tears are faked.

You didn’t misinterpret anything: you acted and believed according to your misogynist belief system which will always, always discredit the woman. Your response was precisely inline with what your belief system is, and that belief system discredits women.

Be honest with yourself.

I would not describe that video as a group of angry men surrounding her. Nor did she appear at all terrified for her life, nor would I be . Frustrated and annoyed - yes. It was a dispute with one young man trying to hold or take the bike that lasted a short time while another video'ed. She then turns her back to the young man as she lets go and seems to decide to use another bike. We only only know a certain % of the whole story. Describing that video as an angry group of men surrounding her and making her terrified for her life is really no different from describing her as a Karen.

They moved her bike, with her on it, back into the rack to end the ride she had paid for. They mocked her for reacting. They called her unborn child r****. One of the guys reached across her to swipe his phone on the QR reader. True, one of the four keeps saying, "give her the bike."

They were confrontational but I can how if it was me and I thought someone was taking a bike I had paid for, I might grab the bike and pull it back too. I might reach across the bike and my arm might brush the person on it. Do I think that makes me an angry person terrorizing that individual and they need to fear for their life - no. It is a minor confrontation that went viral.

Was the comment rude - yes. To look at the guy sitting on the bike smiling and saying give her the bike and characterize him as an angry black man surrounding her and terrorizing her and making her fear for her life is as full of bias and racism (black men are dangerous and angry) as any biased comment about her. We need to separate what actually happened in the video from the response online. Those are two separate issues. What has happened online has been appalling. What happened in the video was not a group of angry men surrounding and terrorizing and physically assaulting a woman as they tried to steal her bike making her fear for her life.

They literally were surrounding her, saying her would be born r***. Is that a joke to you? Are you so comfortable with using the r-word that you don’t think it would be terrifying to have a group of men surrounding you, laughing, mocking you, and using the r-word about your baby?

What is appalling is your defense of them. Of course she was terrified. That video is terrifying. Any normal person would be terrified in her shoes. YOU apparently use the r-word so frequently that the use doesn’t bother you, but for normal people, that’s horrifying.

They also didn't post the before so they clearly said or did more prior to the recording and its interesting if they were in the right, why they aren't coming out and speaking up.

It’s actually a known scam. People will go up and say that they’d paid for the bike. Often people are confused and just give it up. But the PA may have known about the scam and that’s why she refused.

There wouldn’t be much point in filing civil charges against them, because they likely have no assets to pay off any judgment.

How is that a scam since the account from her lawyer is that the men pushed it back in and locked it? What can they gain from a locked bike?

Because once it's back in the dock, he can rent it out himself. That's why he swipes his phone over the QR reader 20 seconds into the video.

I am not following. How is that a scam? If he is renting it out himself, who is he scamming?

Because she had rented it first, and she has the receipt to prove it. They shove her bike back into the dock so that her rental period ends, and consistent with this her receipt shows her rental period only lasted a minute. Now he can rent it himself, so 20 seconds into the video he swipes his phone over the QR reader, starting his own rental period, and then he starts saying the bike is his.

I agree this might have been the last e-bike.

There is more to this as if you look at the video there were plenty of bikes available and she moved over and rented another one. I think that's what happened and she saw him on the app and grabbed his phone but it's easily provable by the receipts/company. It would be nice if the company/men would speak up. Its really strange the men are quiet.

Absolutely not strange that a group of men who harassed and bullied a pregnant woman remain silent. Not strange at all.

This wasn’t a disagreement. The guys forced the bike she was in back into the docking station. A bike she has proof she already rented. She was harassed and bullied. So no, those aren’t racist actions. They are normal pissed off actions.

I disagree. If this scenario had unfolded the same way if the people she was interacting with were white women or white men, she most likely would have acted differently.

With any color women, maybe, with any man/men, no. Do you let one group of men walk all over you and steal from you and give others a pass? If so why are you such a doormat?

I hope she sues the c p out of the media for defamation, you know like POC do whenever they get attacked. And I hope she never has to work another day in her life. The morons going after her have just lost a member of the medical profession, one thing we do not need to perpetuate.

Social media platforms, and the public, need to have a very serious discussion about the use of social media to destroy lives. Social media needs to be a part of this discussion because the platforms are being utilized for this very dark purpose. From the media, e.g. the Covington incident, to TikTok, Reddit, etc., for this incident.

We need to talk.

+1

They would not have assaulted a white or black man 1:1. They chose to target a lone white woman as a pack. Cowards.

That isn't how you steal something. And the guy beside her had his phone open to the app and scanned the QR code during the video so he had already paid.

Starting to say the guys were thieves and stealing a bike really doesn't help anything about this situation.

But, why would they do that with her on it? Why not just contact the company then physically grab her and the bike to shove it back? Why make nasty comments about her being pregnant and the baby. Why film it as your first response? The entire situation makes no sense. Maybe he didn't pay already and she had paid and he was scanning it to get a receipt to show her he paid, despite her having already paid for it.

I agree it all doesn't yet make sense. I still don't know exactly what happened. The video starts when the confrontation is already underway and people often film confrontations now. It doesn't seem filming it was a first response given when the filming starts and that it is by a friend - not the guy at the bike. I don't think he physically grabs her either. Since the guys in te video haven't come forward, I am pretty sure they know they were in the wrong. I don't know who or how the video was released and we haven't heard from any of the witnesses yet as to what was going on pre video. We still only have a couple of snippets of the full story.

It's very interesting the men don't come forward, you cannot see the entire video and what happened before or after. He is physical with her if he's grabbing the bike and shoving it back on the rack or trying to take it from her. Granted she should have just gotten off the bike, walked away and if they followed call the police or go back to the hospital to security or something, just to avoid the situation (not blaming her but why stand there and risk something worse happening). At some point, the men will be identified as one had to have posted it online so it should be easy enough to identify them. And, there should be security camera's on the streets around maybe that caught the incident. But, I simply don't get why the men would bother to approach her for a bike when there were plenty there.

They both thought they’d rented the bike first, and dug in their heels. Either one of them could have chosen another bike.

This. Seems like based on how the penalties for a lost/stolen bike work, neither side was willing to just let the other leave with the bike and risk $1000+ in fines. For the guys, they physically prevented her from leaving with the bike. On her end, she went with the “Karen” defense.

PS - I wouldn’t “come forward” either. It’s nothing in it for them.

She had rented the bike snd they physically pushed the bike back redocking it and then hounded her to give it up. But sure, both sides it!

If I thought I had rented a bike someone was about to ride off on, I would re-dock it if I could. That ends the ride and your responsibility.

That being said: since there were other bikes, just move on. The bike was reset at that point: the other hospital worker and the guy in purple were the only people in the video with good sense. Either party could have done that and chose not to.

She has a receipt with the same number of the bike. The guy didn't rent that same bike.

He did rent the same bike. Her receipt is for $0.00.

They both believed they rented the bike first, and then they made poor choices about how to handle it.

Of course they don't both believe they rented it first. He knows she rented it first. If the bike was his how was she undocked and about to leave?

He rented the bike AFTER he had forcibly redocked the bike with her on it. She has a receipt with the matching QR code. You can see him scanning the QR code 20 secs into the video. How many times does this have to be explained to you?

Presumably Citibike could confirm all of this. In fact, I bet her lawyer talk to Citibike before taking the case public.

As a woman, if I’m staring down a row of rentable bikes, no, I am not about to argue with a group of guys about that bike.

People have to learn when to de-escalate. They would have left with the bike, she could have picked another, and gone on her way. Now she is all over the internet as a “racist Karen”.

As you all LOVE to say, we don’t know what happened before the video starts. He could have been standing at the bike with his phone out ready to rent it and she walked up and swiped it. We weren’t there so we don’t know.

What we do know is that both sides escalated this. We do know she has been doxxed. We do know she is on leave. Was it worth it for THAT bike?

People have to learn when to de-escalate. They would have left with the bike, she could have picked another, and gone on her way. Now she is all over the internet as a “racist Karen”.

As you all LOVE to say, we don’t know what happened before the video starts. He could have been standing at the bike with his phone out ready to rent it and she walked up and swiped it. We weren’t there so we don’t know.

What we do know is that both sides escalated this. We do know she has been doxxed. We do know she is on leave. Was it worth it for THAT bike?

Simply unbelievable that you’re trying to make this her fault. Unbelievable you’re saying she deserved to be doxxed and put on leave for refusing to get off a bike she had already undocked.
