It’s not the ‘NY privates’ that give you this - it’s largely the families that are in the NY privates that are responsible for the outcomes. Until we in DC increase our number of billionaires and get our legacy numbers even high than they already are, not much our schools can do to hit these marks.

If you start googling names from the Spence or other NYC lists you immediately strike on all sorts of high profile legacies. It's not rocket science. These are by-in-large the children of the ultra wealthy and connected.

That and you also find that many of these kids have Linkedin accounts with resumes that rival my own (and I'm 49). Some (many) of these kids have 1000% had the 50K, 4 year college consulting packages. There is no way that they were all uniquely and organically self-motivated to intern at companies and write articles in the NY Times beginning in 9th grade.

It’s so unhealthy. My kids are at top privates but have had a very balanced fun teenage life! Parties, proms, sports, family vacations, and fun! How sad to live your entire existence for a goal and sadly lots of kids at Ivies are not happy!

Potomac: 11

Spence’s numbers are certainly impressive, but so are the other schools. As far as we know, that may be all of Spence’s Ivy admits, and the other schools may have 5-10 students who haven’t posted. The data is incomplete, but congratulations to all of these students!

Schools like this the entire school is focused on connections and status and the goal of the entire high school years are getting into an Ivy. How is that fun or healthy?

Not to mention sorry I am sure these are great kids but none are doing anything different than majority of other kids with the same stats across the country except their parents are connected in some way ie: hooks of all sorts come into play.

The Ivies are probably the most shameful of the colleges in my opinion because they try to pretend they are holistic but when you look closer there are connections, kids that know how to put their names online in google so when you google their name it comes up, all sorts of things.

My kid did not apply to Ivies so this is not sour grapes of any sort but I won't pretend that these kids are more exceptional than many others that are not getting in. They and their parents just know how to present them in the best way and play the game.

Many rich people turn themselves inside out trying to prove to themselves that they are somehow more special or worthy. When you see threads like this, more proof that most people can't handle having money and keeping their soul.

If Spence moves to DC, then your comment will be relevant. AOs aren’t comparing Spence (or any NYC school students) to DC students. Are you similarly concerned about what’s happening at private schools in Seattle and Atlanta? This is DCUM, and we’re in DC.

P.S. It’s clear that your children attend public school. Thus, you have bigger issues to worry about than private school business.

It’s clear that you are very insecure about your fancy private school where you make it a point that anyone attending a public school has “bigger issues”. Please focus on your own issues and hope your child ends up in a school better than Colby college after you shelled out $60K/year for their education.

One of my children attends an Ivy (my husband’s legacy), and the other currently attends a top DC private. I’m not worried about Colby, but that’s probably the best your children will do. I’m also fortunate that we can pay $50k+ per year without breaking a sweat. Can you?

Sidwell has at least 4 kids going to Harvard, 9 or 10 to U of Chicago, several admits to Brown, at least two going to Dartmouth, at least two admits to Stanford, at least 8 going to Penn, multiple admits to Duke and Columbia, at least two admits to CMU...been a much better year than the last few in terms of admissions

one Stanford ed so is committed, at least one regular who has other good options

two into duke but likely not going, one of the reasons duke usually does not sidwell kids, because yield so low as sidwell kids who get into duke also tend to get into ivies and they pick an ivy
