Riverdale: 29. Goodnight! |
Post the link for Riverdale. I counted 14 Ivies, but maybe I have the wrong Riverdale. |
Yup |
No way would I ever put my kids or family in that environment. The entire focus of the community is on status, business and social connections. |
There are always trade offs. |
Ha! I said the same thing about Ivies on another thread and was accused of “reverse snobbery.” |
Not really. That 14 years of your kids and family's life together. 90 percent of the time you will spend with your kids is spent by the time they graduate highschool. Status obsessed and Ivy obsessed does not make for a fun or healthy environment. No thanks. |
Schools like this the entire school is focused on connections and status and the goal of the entire high school years are getting into an Ivy. How is that fun or healthy? Not to mention sorry I am sure these are great kids but none are doing anything different than majority of other kids with the same stats across the country except their parents are connected in some way ie: hooks of all sorts come into play. The Ivies are probably the most shameful of the colleges in my opinion because they try to pretend they are holistic but when you look closer there are connections, kids that know how to put their names online in google so when you google their name it comes up, all sorts of things. My kid did not apply to Ivies so this is not sour grapes of any sort but I won't pretend that these kids are more exceptional than many others that are not getting in. They and their parents just know how to present them in the best way and play the game. |
It’s clear that you are very insecure about your fancy private school where you make it a point that anyone attending a public school has “bigger issues”. Please focus on your own issues and hope your child ends up in a school better than Colby college after you shelled out $60K/year for their education. |
DP. You don't get it. The most important educating happens before college. Writing skills and speaking but more importantly the way they carry themselves. Distinct difference. |
I will add Colby college is a fantastic college experience. I would be fine if my kid ended up there. It is a very "happy" campus and everyone I know that graduated from there retired at 40. |
Exactly. No better or brighter than any other human. Just willing to play the game—to what end is unclear to me. We all live and die. This does not exempt one from death or guarantee a painless life. Good luck to those of you caught in the feeding frenzy. Clear eyed and unwilling to give myself or my kid an ulcer. |
NP The way they carry themselves? C’mon. My public school kids “carry” themselves just fine. This is such unquantifiable bs parents need to justify private school. It would be funny if it wasn’t so sad. |
Why are you on here trolling the private school forums if you are so confident in your choices in public school? Why not go on the public school forums? No sorry there is a difference. I have been in both worlds and the differences in community and so much more are very distinct. |
I have kids in private and think that the DC area (both private & public) has relatively poor college outcomes compared to other areas. |
