VYS Soccer - better or worse?

Who did they scrimmage and what was the score?

We played a team one year older and played 11v11 for the very first time. The score doesn't tell the story. I think we only got the ball in our attacking half maybe 3-4 times (and that was because of their defenders making a mistake passing it around). I don't think we completed one deliberate pass to a teammate in the attacking half and we did not get any shots off. I don't believe their keeper touched the ball once if my memory serves me correctly. The other team just passed the ball around in the 2nd half and we chased them. Some thought that it was a great experience. I'm not so sure.

Your first 11v11 against an older team? are you serious?

Lighten up man.

It is good experience to play 11v11 sooner than later. What did you honestly expect of them?

I'm certainly not upset but I'm trying to see what the kids should/could take away from this and was there a better game for them to play that this one? I'm not upset but I would probably be a bit if I was a parent on the other team. I doubt they got anything out of it.

I'm certainly not upset but I'm trying to see what the kids should/could take a way from this and was there a better game for them to play that this one? I'm not upset but I would probably be a bit if I was a parent on the other team. I doubt they got anything out of it.

A scrimmage is not about who wins. It's about developing and seeing what you need to work on. I'm sure they saw things that they need to work on. The older team is the one who really didn't get anything out of it since it was very easy.

What they should take away from it is this time next year they should be able to punish a 10 team in their first 11v11 game. Expect them to look like they've never even played soccer from time to time.

They shouldn't be upset. I wouldn't really worry about it. It is a big adjustment and it takes time. Keep reminding yourself next fall when things look awful then good then awful.

Don't worry about the other team either.

Don't complain or fret.
Having a scrimmage is better than not having a scrimmage. See VYS boys side.

Enjoy the harder competition while you have it. From U13 and up, the girls league that vys plays in gets very diluted of talent

We had a similar scrimmage before moving up to 11x11. Our coaches actually stopped play a few times to "coach' the girls - discuss the play, where they could have played better, positioning - was a very good learning experience for them.

Everyone needs to relax and just be realistic. VYS is a good community club, is not top tier. They will always be in the shadows of Arlington and McLean.

#obviouslygirlssoccerparentwhoknowsnothingaboutboyssoccer

McLean is a small club on the boys side who is not viewed as competitive with larger clubs in the area, and Vienna and others have been beating up on them at younger ages for a while.

IIMHO, I've always viewed Mclean as overrated. I've seen them play and I've never been wowed. Not that VYS is better but you can't speak about Mclean and Arlington in the same sentence.

So which brackets will McLean boys win at VDA showcase?

Likewise, going winless in the top flight doesn't mean a team is worse that a team that wins a mid level flight

We are in a VYS forum. I don't think anyone thought it was the top flight. Context matters.

then why brag? It's not a marker of a club's success to have a team win the bottom division of a tournament. it's great for the kids and they should be happy and proud, but winning a bronze flight doesn't make you a better club than one whose teams lose in platinum

For the VYS/ Arlington scrimmages: The VYS 07 & 06 teams are really struggling. They are lucky Arlington didn’t score 20+ on each of them.

Didn't the 06 boys team win their Jeff Cup bracket?

Yeah, that is not bragging.
But it is an opening for someone to come in and say they aren't that good. Laughable.

Brackets for Arlington tournament are out. 07 Eagles are in the 4th division with Arlington Black (and other teams of course). That's Arlington's 5th team. I guess that shows us what Arlington thought of the competitiveness of the scrimmage in the Fall.
