Fire in upper NW?

But who the hell drops off 40k without handing it to a person? I haven't seen anything that said it was an in-person handoff. I've only read that it was dropped on the porch. Even if it is your normal course of business to carry around enormous sums of cash, surely you would take care that it got to the right place?

Are these details important (e.g. the news today about the $40K drop-off or the horrible detail about the boy's death) or just fill-in facts for the public that wants to know as much as possible, right now?

I keep comparing this to the Rockville murders. Silence for a few days and then -- bam -- they nail the perp 6,000 miles away in less than a week. That was some amazing police work.

It is pretty clear that local reporters all got the same info leaked to them from the police at the same time today. The reporters were sending almost identical tweets simultaneously. One assumes that they were provided an authorized briefing, or else someone within MPDC is going to find themselves in really big trouble.

just a little psych-but is it possible NG is talking, talking, talking so much because she is enjoying the attention? sick, but maybe.

i have always thought she was involved, but almost second guessed myself when she revealed she knew about the $40K because I thought to myself that no one can be that stupid.

i think she's not showing the proper emotion to learning what has happened to the little boy she's known since birth and his good parents, as well as her friend. I think she is dumb because she is giving inconsistent stories and talking to the press and essentially making herself a suspect. she may also be an attention seeker.

she should tell what she knows to the cops and go home and shut up.

That thin was a bag with $40,000.00 in it, after my uncle was instructed to call AIW, inc. Saying he needed the money for a piece of art.

The housekeeper says she spoke with the person who was supposed to make the delivery and he confirmed he dropped it off at the house Thursday morning."

That's what SHE says.

She was explaining that the guy running with the "bucket" was a bag of money 40K

why does ng say "cash deliveries were common"?

This will come as a shock to the K Street corporate types on this thread but people who run their own businesses often deal in cash and a lot of it. Not strange at all to have a 40k roll when running a construction company and opening a martial arts studio. Many people who work for you do not have bank accounts or for less kosher reasons prefer to be paid in cash.

Way too coordinated with press for it to be an unauthorized leak out of MPDC.

They are putting the pressure on with this. Makes me think more that it had to do with AIW. They want them to know they know who dropped the money off, how much it was, etc.

Yes, that is a very valid point.

If I had the prestige these people had, I could call my bank President and have him bring me money. I wouldn't need an assistant to bring it to my house.

Or leave it outside. Who leaves their boss's cash OUTSIDE where any Joe Blow could just take it ?

So why would the police be telling SS's niece or ANY family member about the details of the case? I mean, update them on the status of finding the evil perps, but would the police give out such details like the package contained $40,000?

That doesn't seem normal to me. Please help me understand this, anyone familiar with criminal cases.

You know, I can actually see how this would all seem kind of normal-crazy in the moment and only looks really suspicious because it's generally known what was happening at the house.

Here is a non-sinister version of the story, as described by various phone calls and interviews with chatty Nelly:

Kid gets in gokart accident, has concussion, needs care at home. Dad is in the final stages of opening martial arts studio, which presumably he's been working on for some time now, and there are a lot of last minute tasks associated with that. Mom is home taking care of the kid, but then gets food poisoning and the family finds itself in need of more help than they'd planned. Main housekeeper is helping Dad out with studio stuff, including expecting a delivery of cash from Dad's assistant. Series of weird phone calls and texts, but everyone is on the go, so maybe housekeeper doesn't think much of it except "That's weird, I will have to get the full story about that later" and then goes about her business.

Later, she finds out what was actually happening and reacts to the grief and shock inappropriately, including being too chatty with the press and misremembering some details. The press, eager to have some insight into this family and this crime, talk to her repeatedly, and anyone else who will talk, because the official statements are few and far between and do not satisfy the 24 hour news cycle.

Note: I don't know WTH happened, but I think that there are ways that in the moment, things didn't seem so sinister.

This. And he is opening up a new business. Dropping off that amount of cash may not have been out of the ordinary for them. For me, you and 99.999% of DCUM it is but these people didn't live a typical life.

Yes, because he is a business owner not just a regular guy. As a small business owner, I routinely got checks for $50k. You deal with greatest sums of money as a business. Many posters are thinking in terms of a regular person, not a business.

You got a check. When was the last time you got paid in cash for 40K? No business owner deals with cash in those amounts unless you are a drug dealer who cannot deal with banks.
