I am talking about McClearan stopping at West Ox and reappear at lawyers road. The whole middle section is missing and there is no good way for Fix Mill going to Carson except going thru neighborhoods |
And, most of the kids going to school from there live in that neighborhood. That is not a problem. And, FWIW, I don't live in Fox Mill or Bradley Farms. |
| Gee. A Crossfield parent posted this a.m. on Nextdoor that no one on her side of Fairfax County Parkway should be considered for the new school. Crazy. I guess we better pull her kids out of Carson ASAP. |
Which is why they should end up at Hughes with the rest of their high school. |
That's such BS. She probably lives in Franklin Farm or Folkstone. There are a ton of neighborhoods that are closer to Carson/Western than Franklin or Oakton. She doesn't represent us. |
| I get that we're all focused on our own kids but I think the school board should think about future kids. I know the current moms think they are rooted in the Oakton community but moms of toddlers aren't at all. They would prefer the closer school. |
I don’t know that to be true. I’m indifferent on the outcome but in my neighborhood currently zoned to Oakton we have several families with kids in preschool who are recent home buyers and just as fired up as some of the families with older kids. I try to remind them we have no idea what any of the schools will be like in a decade plus. |
By the time preschoolers are in high school, there definitely won't be space for them at Oakton. They will end up at South Lakes or Herndon. Western is a better bet. It's ridiculous that parents can't see that. |
No. 1. It is way too far from Herndon. 2 Langley will be full and the kids who live near Herndon will be assigned there. |
While Western might be a better bet there is not a single person on this thread who could possibly forecast school capacities that far out. |
Why do South Lakes and Herndon always have to be used as a fear tactic by Crossfield families that want to go to Western? It’s a bit off putting. |
Usually it's just South Lakes - and that's because FCPS won't get rid of the inferior IB program there. No one wants to be in the situation of deciding whether to pupil place their kid out for better AP classes but separating from most of their friends to do it. Herndon is the boogeyman for the "Great Falls" families with Herndon addresses. |
I'm not sure what you expect them to do about it - isn't there a neighborhood in the way? |
I'm not saying I want to go there, but Herndon HS is 1/2 a mile closer to my house on the eastern edge of Franklin Farm than Oakton. You know what other schools are closer to my house than Oakton? South Lakes, Chantilly, and of course Western. Heck, if you're looking at miles, even Westfield is closer to my house even though it would take MUCH longer to get there. |
I'm the person you're responding to. I have nothing against South Lakes (other than I prefer an AP school), but the wealthy pro-Oakton crowd sure do. |
