Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
Exactly. |
Again, the 117 pages of your and that other poster’s comments belie this sentiment. You do seem to very much have an opinion on where my kids go. |
Not at all. |
I don’t think capacity is a hugely driving factor, especially in this first round, because as you’ve stated, there aren’t any clear cut capacity issues that aren’t currently being addressed. WSHS is right on the cusp, and even so, the crisis at Lewis still has it 86% enrolled. I think that will be punted another 5 years down the line, because residents will dig too deep into how CIP projections are calculated for them to hold much water. I truly think this round will be about reducing islands and split feeders, as well as reducing the need for out of pyramid transfers (AAP, and AP vs IB) so that students remain at their home school. |
Maybe, but there’s been no consistent approach to islands and split feeders, either. They created an island at Fairfax HS within the last decade, and they made a deliberate decision to turn Thoreau MS into a three-way split feeder. So no consistency on that front, which again suggests the newfound zeal is a cover for another agenda. And it would be great if there was focus on the continued need for AAP centers and IB, but those policy issues really ought to be addressed and resolved before boundary scenarios are developed. Eliminating AAP centers, which many not everyone favors, has big implications for ES and MS boundaries. The fact that the SB did not take that up first inspires little confidence that they really know what they’re doing. |
| Well, whatever happens we can rest assured that when it's crunch time with the boundaries we'll get three emails a day from Reid about whatever was screwed up previously, is happening now, etc. |

If they boundaries of FCPS included down to stafford there would be no hayfield recruiting scandal
something about racisim discuss |
| Definitely just going to have my kids claim to be homeless, then they can go to whatever school they want. |
Yep. Reid and the school board have lost ALL credibility after this Hayfield football nonsense. Doing something that needs as much finesse and community trust as implementing boundary changes should be off the table at this point. |
In total agreement. They need to scale back their grand designs and demonstrate they can take care of the basics with a minimal level of competence. |
|
The Hayfield scandal and hiring Thru through a no bid process for the boundary review are part of a broader pattern where the school board does not believe that it needs to answer to anybody.
Until we hold them accountable, they will continue to believe that they’re free to do whatever they want. |
|
Credibility destroyed!
Reid, I would rather you gaslight me by revealing the text messages and telling me you don't believe in any wrongdoing by Hayfield. What other lies and truth twisting is coming from you while information is hidden at gatehouse? |
It's not just Reid. The seven School Board members who rushed to pledge their allegiance to Reid at the same time as the Hayfield situation was only getting more chaotic all need to resign. They cannot be trusted with school boundaries or anything else. The Compromised Seven are: Sandy Anderson Seema Dixit Karl Frisch Robyn Lady Kyle McDaniel Marcia St. John-Cunning Rachna Sizemore-Heizer RESIGN!!! |

DP. Interestingly, they no longer report safety stats, or at least make them very difficult to access. I wonder why that could possibly be? "Please note, starting in school year 2021-22, The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) retired the use of the Discipline, Crime and Violence collection (DCV) codes and began to transition to Student Behavior and Administrative Response (SBAR) codes. Unlike the DCV collection, SBAR codes capture all the behaviors of each student in each event. Additionally, the administrative response to each student can include one or more behavioral interventions, institutional supports or disciplinary sanctions. Consequently, codes and reporting will look differently than prior years. Per the Code of Virginia (§22.1-279.3:1) school divisions statewide are required to submit data annually to VDOE on events of student behavior and the administrative responses to the behavior." |
