There is no such thing as unhooked at any school. Look at any kid who’s gotten into an Ivy in the last few years from any single school and you will see if you look hard enough there was some kind of a connection even if it’s not an official “hook.”

You’re an idiot.

Correct

What an incredibly cruel and judgmental thing to say. Do you know that kids from schools read these boards? No matter what schools my children attend, I hope they learn one of life's most basic rules - if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all. Success is about so much more than the degree that hangs on your wall.

If these PPs really are parents of kids at these other schools, they are not providing much of a selling point. Who would want their kids surrounded by snobby, immature people who would write such things? So ill-mannered and insecure.

No one is sleeping on Potomac 2024. Their results are what you would expect from Potomac. A sprinkling of Ivies, and a lot of SLACs (Colgate is very popular).

More than a sprinkling of Ivies. Multiple.

My kids go elsewhere but a lot of these schools are having great results. It does not bother me to acknowledge it.

Does Potomac have more Ivies posted than GDS, Sidwell, Maret, etc? Plus, the school is located in the hinterlands of VA (not even Potomac, MD). Again, no one is sleeping on Potomac. It’s just that most people on DCUM don’t care about Potomac. It’s a fine school, but nothing magical is happening out there.

Very impressive from Potomac. Having 9 early Ivy acceptances + 2 posted so far is on par with Sidwell and GDS

I’m sorry but this NY school puts all the DC privates to shame

After seeing their page I have lost all respect for the DC privates. They just pretend to be competitive but it’s the NY private schools that really give your children an education worth the hefty tuition.

I don't sit here and count all of the Ivies at schools. That would be weird. I only looked at Potomacs to see what the pp was referencing.

Actually looking at it, results do look just as strong as GDS, sidwell, and maret. My kids are at GDS, but that’s an impressive showing and they don’t have to suffer through hanging around w folks who think that McLean is the hinterlands.

Well done Potomac!

Yes, Potomac is doing well! They’re not doing as well as GDS or Sidwell (which isn’t surprising), but still quite impressive. They’re also doing much better than Maret (only 4 Ivies so far). What’s going on, Maret?

Maybe most frogs who attend ivies and T20s are sports recruits. Did they change their college counselors?

Isn’t Maret smaller?

This is 100% incorrect. As far as Holy Cross (AHC), this school is filled with very bright and well rounded girls whom are attending college on scholarship for the most part. Unfortunately, a lot of families at AHC are not willing/capable of financing an IVY education so their DD will be attending the college with the most scholarship money offered. These young women have been/could be accepted at the "top tier" colleges but the reality is that the price tags are not affordable.

Those girls don’t get into ivies. Academically AHC is barely middle tier. Ivies give out tons of financial aid.

PP again. Glanced at Maret (which I do believe is smaller so percentage would have to be factored in to compare) and their college outcomes are excellent. Harvard, Penn, Georgetown, Wellesley, Stanford… you people are crazy to criticize this list. And I do believe that students who choose the flagship (whether UVA or MD) often turn down other top schools and chose them based on value, it just makes sense.

Context is important. The poster who commented on Maret was only counting Ivies. At the time, Maret only had 4 Ivies posted (I have no idea where the current number stands, nor am I interested in looking it up).

I don't know about the other schools but in looking at Ivy admits from Potomac two are double legacy, one is a legacy with a father who is a big donor, four sports recruits, URM, and I don't know about the few others. I'm not sure that speaks to the quality of the school or whether that makes the results "impressive." They are high achieving kids but basically all hooked.

Beg to differ. Multiple unhooked Ivy and Ivy+ admits from Sidwell this year, including several ORMs (East and South Asian)

If Spence moves to DC, then your comment will be relevant. AOs aren’t comparing Spence (or any NYC school students) to DC students. Are you similarly concerned about what’s happening at private schools in Seattle and Atlanta? This is DCUM, and we’re in DC.

P.S. It’s clear that your children attend public school. Thus, you have bigger issues to worry about than private school business.

Ivy admits posted so far:

Spence: 18
GDS: 14
Sidwell: 13
Potomac: 11

Spence’s numbers are certainly impressive, but so are the other schools. As far as we know, that may be all of Spence’s Ivy admits, and the other schools may have 5-10 students who haven’t posted. The data is incomplete, but congratulations to all of these students!
