Maybe it was a cash payment to a contractor or subcontractor?

Who pays 40K in cash? That's ridiculous.

Didn't the assistant deliver the money by leaving it outside the door? Who leaves 40K in cash outside in a box?

Electricians, plumbers, any number of contractors! $40k isn't that much money when dealing with contractors.

We just spend $60k to finish our basement from scratch. At no point did anybody pay anybody else in cash.

This makes no sense. Or did the instruction to deliver the $40,000 cash to the house on Thursday morning, only come from Mr. Savoloupos after he and the family were taken hostage?

Right! One person is easier to deal with than 4.

NG became shady as hell to me when that voice mail was released. How the F can you hear that child in the background and keep your composure ? A child she knew from BIRTH !!

No one in their right mind would leave that amount of $$ on a front stoop. Let alone a sucessful and astute businessman like SS. This was all set up-and the $40 grand is likely what the perps forced out of them and had nothing to do with the martial arts studio. The person who took the car took the $$ as well as whatever else of value is missiong from the home. They need to look at \NG much closer as well as her son and other relations.

I remember reading earlier on online about the 40K and the poster claimed to be a family member of SS. The relative claimed to be a niece and also claimed that the 40K was planned to be dropped off at the house for "art". I'll try to find the OP with that info.

I have stopped keeping up with this thread because I hate what I've learned from reading it. So maybe this has already been said, but: I theorize that 1) the housekeeper had nothing to do with it and 2) the horrible person(s) who did this will turn out not to be Spanish-speaking. All the weird texts and voicemails on Weds-Thurs were conducted in English, purportedly by the Savopouloses. If the perps spoke Spanish, why not send the texts to the housekeeper's husband in Spanish? And they couldn't let her write the texts herself because they wouldn't be able to understand if she secretly sent a message for help. So they had to use the ruse of the phone not working.

I feel confident SS requested the assistant drop of the cash as ransom, and SS used the dojo as an excuse. Horses, not zebras people.

You are a homeowner, not a business. But perhaps he requested the $40k after being held hostage. He called the company accountant and told her to get $40k and have the assistant bring it over....?

Maybe that is why the sister called SS? to ask about the art?

As an intruder held a family and their housekeeper captive inside a Northwest Washington home last Thursday, a man dropped off a package containing $40,000, according to law enforcement officials familiar with the investigation.

Hours later, the multi-million dollar house was on fire and Savvas Savopoulos, 46, his wife Amy, 47, their 10-year-old son Philip, and the housekeeper, Veralicia Figueroa, 57, were dead inside. When firefighters arrived, the cash was gone, as was a blue Porsche owned by the family.

So these sickos killed 4 people including that boy for 40K. How sad.

SICKENING. I can see if it was 1mil+ MAYBE but to kill over so little? It's never okay or right, but why would they even bother for 40k? So terrible. They could have taken far more and let the people live.

Apparently they subsequently extorted tens of thousands from SS, according to the latest tweet.

According to Nelitza Gutierrez, a housekeeper working for the Savopoulos family, $40,000 in cash was to be delivered to the house on Woodland Drive last Thursday morning, the day the bodies were found.

In an off-camera interview, Gutierrez says an assistant was scheduled to drop off the cash to be used for the opening of a martial arts center in Chantilly, Virginia. The housekeeper says she spoke with the person who was supposed to make the delivery and he confirmed he dropped it off at the house Thursday morning.

I am not on Team The Housekeeper Was In On It, but she needs to stop talking to the press and gossiping about this with other people who are involved with this family and may have knowledge of this case. If she is involved, she is making it really easy for people to catch her in a lie by talking to the fucking press so often. If she's not involved, she is not doing herself or the investigation any favors.

She may just be dumb.

Or the police are telling her to let information out slowly.

And if the $$ was not found after the fire-perhaps it was more than $40 grand.

on top of the $40k?? I'm not sure if this is true. It seems like to was hard enough to obtain the $40k. Doesn't it usually take at least 24 to wire money? I remember from house closings...

Oh I like where you went with that. The police could be using her this way and she is helping them.

This. And he is opening up a new business. Dropping off that amount of cash may not have been out of the ordinary for them. For me, you and 99.999% of DCUM it is but these people didn't live a typical life.
